Default 1991 Ford Ranger

Ok so a guy i want to buy a ford ranger from say that the only thing wrong with it is it will not go pass third gear its a 5 speed, he says he took it to a shop and its the egr valve is he right or wrong, he says that he fixed these things, ecu, coil pack, new idle air control sensor, new plugs wires. So he says that it has to be the egr i want to know if it is the clutch or the tranny is going bad or what give me some insight. Oh this is also the 2.3L xlt.

How much is he asking? it could be a EGR valve, just it just stop accelerating or dose it feel like it is slipping. i had a bad egr in my old interceptor and it wouldn't go past 2nd witch was great because i could just burn out like crasy. lol

the egr has nothing to do with the transmission

the egr is purely for emissions (and unless your state requires it, its not needed)

so whoever told you "it won't go into 4th because of the EGR" is full of crap

sounds like the transmission is out...or at least 4th gear
