Default Broken Clockspring?

So I just noticed on the way to work this morning that my airbag light is on...I tried the horn and it doesn't work; all I hear is a click near the passenger side fuse box. How can I test it, once I get home today??

Thanks!!

Yea I assumed so as well; I think I know exactly when it broke too lol. But I wanna know if theres a way to test it; I don't like throwing parts at problems and then praying that it gets fixed.

If it is the clockspring, I think it might be time to install a tilt/cruise wheel and then get the cruise control servo. That way I get a new clockspring, and cruise control at the same time!

Got a few quick questions for ya shelton...Did you upgrade to one with cruise? Did you get yours at a Junkyard or at an auto wrecker? I'm considering a wrecker, just because they usually give you a key and I don't want to mess with drilling out the old ignition cylinder

Yeah I got one from the local u pull for 40 bucks from an explorer. I didn't have cruise at the time so I needed the clock spring and buttons too.

Mine didn't have a key so I kinda chiseled my way through the cylinder piece by piece till it came out. Hey if it saves you money this way why not just wack it with the hammer a few times. BTW remove the clockspring if you do it this way, cause once the wheel lock part is broken the wheel will spin at will and can overturn the spring and break it.

Are you prewired for cruise?

I'm not sure if I'm prewired for cruise. What am I looking for to find out?

Between your coolant/windsheild wiper reservoir and the hvac box there should be like a 8-10 wire connector just laying there. Sometime they have a plug in it that has it attached to the fender wall.

Just went and looked; theres nothin there I do see the mounting point for the cruise control servo, though.

So I'm gonna need a steering column with tilt/cruise, cruise control servo/wire for a 2.3l duratech engine, and a wiring harness from an explorer/ranger with cruise?

You don't necessarily need a harness. You can get the connector to the servo and wire everything off it. Can be a pain. If you go the harness way you pretty much have to get one the same year from a ranger. Both engine bay and dash harness.

I'm not scared of wiring stuff up, as long as I know what each one on the servo is supposed to connect to lol. But I think it would be kinda hard to find a whole harness in a junkyard; I haven't seen a 2005 ranger yet. This is becoming a much bigger project lol. If only Ford had put a wiring harness in my car!!

Thanks for all the help Anthony! I guess I'll keep my eye out for an '05 at a junkyard with a 2.3l engine and cruise.

My truck I had to find a 2000 any engine, 2wd with power options. I think that is all your requirements is a 2005 2wd. There is a serpate engine harness. When I mean engine bay harness I'm talking about the underhood fusebox (part of the harness) and the wiring that goes along the front of your bay (connects to headlights and a/c components).

The reason I had to go with exactly a 2000 model was that the harness changed very slightly in 2000. It was the way the dash harness connected to the bed / back of truck harness.

2004 could be the same, 2006 could be. It took me a few months of research to find out which harness I could use. Took even longer to find one available for a good price. I had to drive 4.5 hours to a guy parting out a 2000 V6 2wd. I had to pull both harnesses my self and it was 27 degrees outside. Good thing was is I got both harnesses for 50 bucks. TOTAL!
