Default F-150 and Fiancee's Sporttrac getting better MPG then my 3.0 Ranger....

Has anyone experiences this or notieced it? My New F-150 STX is getting 21MPG in the City and 25MPG on the highway! My Fiancee's Sporttrax is getting 19MPG in the city and 24 on the highway!

Drumroll please

Wait for it...................

My 3.0 Ranger is getting all off 12-14 in TOWN! I get like 18 on the highway! Has anyone dealt with this i mean the truck does have 194k in miles on it but that can't be normal can it?

do a tune up. clean the air filter, clean the maf, clean the throttle body, new plugs and wires. maybe a new coil pack too. injector cleaner will help as well. over the life of the vehicle parts get less efficient so it doesn't work and perform as well as it used to.

I am not surprised...the 3.0 gets terrible gas mileage...I get about 18 mpg in mixed driving...

Are you getting those numbers from the on board computer displays are you actually calculating the numbers from mileage driven and gas used? The displays are notoriously optimistic. I read an article where they tested the displays and found up to 20% optimistic.

I think another factor is that both the f150 and the sportrac work less hard then your 3L to carry its weight around therefore even though They have bigger engines (which one does your sporttrac have the 4L or the 4.6L and the F150 does it have the ne v6 3.7 or the 5L?) either way those engines are mose sophisticated and designed to be more economical then your 3L i also believe that the f150 has a 6 speed auto so that will be another factor

F-150 has the smaller V8. And the sporttrax has the 4.6L

Don't feel bad, this winter i only got roughly 16city and 18highway out of my 2.3L. My uncle gets 25 highway out of his F-350 FX4 Powerstroke and my neighbor is pushing 30 with his Cummins.

I'd take your truck in for a tuneup. I know when my dad did that with the old Astro van we got another 2mpg out of it.

I get mid 18's with my 4.0L with mixed driving. I have no idea what my city mileage would be since I don't do enough city only driving. From the sounds of it, your mileage is about right though.

They do have a point about the bigger vehicles though. They have a bigger engines that are newer and don't have to work as hard.
