Question 3.0 vs 4.0 for comuting

i know there are several threads about this but none of them answer my question real well.

Is the difference between the 3.0 and 4.0 that big for general comuting through town? 95% of the time im driving in the city and i hardly ever break 50mph, so in the 4x4 type of truck, is the difference between the 3.0 and 4.0 really nessary. i know the mpg is only a 1-2 differnece but that makes a difference if you drive 15k/year.

Thanks for you opions in advance!

Found a 2001 for 4800, its an hour away, 154k 3.0 auto 4x4- ext cab/step side- color gold (has 1 major accdient on carfax)
2005 for 6800 (price might change due to not being inpected yet), 10mins away, 122k 4.0 auto, 4x4, reg cab (kinda wanted the ext, i have a reg now i can make it work again), standard side bed- color white (will update once i get car fax)
idk which one, not crazy about the white but it could grow on me, both have no power locks, windows, mirrors, anything i should know about these model years? like trouble spots ect, i know the 3.0 is slow but i just drive through town and don't haul much.

I'd say no but then again I have a 3.0. I'm gonna catch hell for this but the 3.0 is more reliable. I'm NOT saying that 4.0's are crap, but they do have the most issues out of any Ranger engine, except for the 2.8 & 2.9. Also, it's as shame Ford dropped 4wd 4-cyl's in 96.

I think there both very good motors but i would go with the 4.0 sohc, the extra power is worth 1-2 mpgs less

ive test driven both, im just not sure i need the extra power, since 95% of my driving through town (takes 15miles minimum to get anywhere...gotta love suburbs) i occastionly (like once a year) will take a 2 hour trip out to the big city to visit family and friends but im sure the 3.0 is capitable to hold 70mph on a flat interstate.

I had a 99 sport witha 3.0 liter and i thought it was enough power and it was, but then i got a 4.0 liter and it was like night and day. If your not hauling anything or plan loading ur truck then a 3 liter probably will be fine. But I would pick the 4 over the 3 any day for what I use it for

Thats a good point, at most id tow a utility trailer with maybe 500~600 lbs in it, and i do that once in a blue moon. i would assume the 3.0 could handle it easy because my 2.5 4 banger does it with out much effort. 99% of the time there will be no load in the bed, besides maybe 2 70 lb sand bags in the winter...so i don't have to use 4wd all the time

The 3.0 has more power than the 2.5. The 2.5 only puts out 119 hp, so the 3.0 would be a definite power boost for you.

i just hope the 3.0 auto is as reliable and "bullet proof" as my 2.5, 5 speed lol had it for almost a year put 12k miles on it, nothing but new plugs and wires and a few oil changes

im about 2, i don't know why its so hard to just email the dam carfax lol, in my area theres a dry spell of used rangers, the ones are here are 3-6 grand higher then what blue book has them at.

I really don't care what size engine i get, i just want 4x4, i just wanted to know if id suffer driving mainly city if i ended up with the 3.0 and if it would make a big difference on the interstate when i do take a small road trip.
