even if it was 10 years ago.... that means nothing.

My 07 sport trac was wrecked (pretty bad wreck) , and was repaired.

The tranny never worked right again. gears slipped and the transmission locked up randomly (that lead to some interesting situations, but thats another story)

Sometimes, the truck would drive ok though. It just depended on the day.

It ended up getting so bad, the truck was traded in.

Just because it drove good once dosent mean anything. But if it was repaired good, It may be fine!

But thats just my 2 cents. If you want the truck, more power to you. Ultimately, its not my decision, its yours.

I think that for an ext cab 4wd truck go with the 4.0. If your looking at a 2wd reg cab short box go with a 2.5 and skip the 3.0 all together. I honestly see no reason to even have the 3.0. ford really screwed up on this

Member FlaresideChick has over 200K on her truck. Not sure what engine she has though.

so are the 2.5 and 4.0. My point is that there really is no place for the 3.0. whats the advantage..? dont have the power of the 4.0, dont get as good of mileage as the 2.5. Im just saying for me, its a pointless motor, a car motor. Basically, if you want mpg (for a truck) get the 2.5. If you don't care about the mpg but want 4wd and power you get the 4.0.

I have 263k miles on my plow truck with the 4.0 OHV. It is a great motor.

----------

in either direction you go, the benifits of the 2.5/4.0 out weigh the 3.0. imho

Your forgetting the Duratec 2.3 which has a lot more power than a 2.5. But you are right about the 3.0, it's a great engine in what it was designed for: the Taurus - a car, not the Ranger - a truck. The power it does make it makes up in the higher RPM range and a truck benefits best when an engine makes it's max power at a low RPM range.

Thanks Everyone, i think i am gunna pass on this one for now, just because the sales guy is irratating, told me to call his cell and let him know, he never gave me his card... back to searching

----------

i don't think i will be that picky for the motor, if i find another 3.0 thats in nice shape it will deffently be a contendor, but ill keep my eye out for the 4.0's
