Default What years or options to avoid on a Ranger 2005 to 2011?

Thinking about buying one or two more Ford Rangers in the near future. Want two wheel drive, extended cab, cruise control, A/C, 3.0 V6, automatic, and of course, white exterior. Need help identifying any model years, or options, to avoid.

Thanks in advance,

3.0 v6. I would try to find one with a limited slip rear end too.

why do you prefer the 3.0 vs the 4.0? what are the trucks going to be used for?

^^^ I disagree I think the 4.0 has about the same power and gas mileage as the 4.0 lol

^ yeah what he said. more power is always a plus even if you dont need it since it gets the same gas mileage. i have a 3.0 and it is a turd. i feel like my dog can outrun me in it sometimes lol

Defiantly go with the 4.0 over the 3.0

3.0 has same power as the 2.3

The 3.0: 148hp @ 4900 RPM (2005-2007) 180ft-lbs @ 3950 RPM (2005 - 2007)

The 4.0: 207hp @ 5250 RPM (2001 - 2007) 238ft-lbs @ 3000 RPM (2001 - 2007)

And both engines made about the same mpg.

My daughter is going to drive the truck to college about six and a half hours away. She will then drive it around town for about ten weeks and then back to our house. Mileage is more important, but in two years I might end up with the Ranger as my ride.

My 1998 Ranger is a 4.0 and has lots of power, but I think a 1998 3.0 has much better mileage??? I get 19 mpg on the highway with the 1998. Was hoping for around 24 real mpg. Am I not going to get that in a new Ranger with a 3.0 and an automatic?

The only way you are going to get that kind of mileage is with a four cylinder. The 3.0L and 4.0L V6 engines get about the same gas mileage. The current 2.3L four has about the same power as the 3.0L six.
