Default Pulling Power/ Payload Capacity

Hello,
I have a few Ford Ranger questions.

1: What is the maximum (safe) payload of the bed?
1a: I know that there are differant options. Is there
a chart somewhere showing what options have what
payload capacities? I Tried google without sucess.

2: What is the Maximum Pulling Capacity?
2a: How is maximum pulling capacity rated? If the weight is on the wheels of the trailer or the hitch. I would imagine it could pull quite abit if you go really slow.
2b: I own a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS, it weighs in at about 3200 lbs. If I had to trailer it, is there a ranger that can pull it?
2ba: What about pulling it on a car dolly (just front wheels off the ground) as aposed to a trailer?

Thanks,

Good questions, but questions that we can't answer unless we know what kind of truck you have.
Unless you're looking at buying a Ranger?
Also, pics of the SS?

towing power varies with the engine and model , the 3.0 Edge tows more than the 3.0 xlt

The edge vs xlt doesn't matter at all. Engine size, transmission type, gear ratio and 2wd vs 4wd are the things that matter to the rating.

The best combo for towing is a 2wd Auto 4.0.

Probably because they have different gears. The tow rating chart has no mention of XLT or EDGE

EDIT: just noticed there is no 3.0 here, these are 2010 ratings so I guess they don't have the 3.0 anymore.

A 4.0 ranger will have no problem towing a car on a dolly, I do it all the time ( friend owns a chevy ;p)

I was looking to MAAYBE gettting a ranger, just in case I have to tow my car. So it wouldn't be a constant thing, just an ocasional deal.
You say 4.0 but what other options would I need to consider to select the best truck for the job? I remember doing the thing at uhaul and it says Ford Ranger Pulling Car dolly with Cobalt = Not Reccomended, wich is why I thought I'd ask.
So thanks,

Look at the link HazardousRanger posted. It will give you decent idea what to look for. If there is a specific year you have in mind, check the sticky on the owner's manuals. It's the technical section (I think). You can always go to the Ford site and click service at the bottom of the page. Then place the cursor over vehicle basics so the drop down menu pops up and select manuals. They have manuals back to 1996 I believe.

I have a 2001 ranger xlt 4x4 with the 4.0l v6 and the towing capacity is around 5600 pounds so i think that youd be able to pull your car with that

Wow only 1900 for the 2.3L Supercab Auto? I was hoping I could tow a small fishing or sport boat, possibly a light travel trailer. Truck feels like it would do it though. When was in High School I owned a '92 Toyota Pre-Tacoma era with the weak 22RE motor & a stick. I was the ownly guy with a hitch so we would pull my buddies dads boat all the time with that truck, no problems really. No reason why my much more powerful Duratec couldn't get the same job done.
