I've never fully bought into this idea that running a tank near empty can cause all these problems.
Why would running a vehicle low on fuel exceed the operating parameters engineered into the vehicle?

Why would the engineers of all of today's vehicles do the same?

Why would a manufacturer engineer the fuel system in a way that sets themselves up for potential warranty repairs and angry customers?

If it is so bad, why not engineer it so when the gauge reads empty there is still a 1/4 tank left?

In tank pumps have been widely used for well over 20 years now, but this problem seems to have only come to the surface in the past few years.

I don't know. Just call me a skeptic is all.

An expert is someone who knows everything about something they've never done before.

All I can say is I've run out of gas about 10 times in this truck in the last 12 years. And I mean TRULY ran it dry each one of those times where I stalled and had no choice but to GTFO the road.
I didnt realize how risky this is and I'm not going to do it anymore. The last time this happened it was really scary after filling up and I thought I has just fucked my fuel system beyond repair but then 5 minutes later everything returned to normal. knock on wood.

Then I took it into the stop for other work. They did the usual vehicle inspection and the only thing they marked as "needing attention" on my truck was u guessed it, the fuel system. In the comments section all they wrote was "I.P." Not sure what that means...

I'm not sure what IP means either. It could be specific to their shop's abbreviations. Maybe something about pressure? Fuel system is rather broad too, that could be anything from the tank to the injectors.

I've run dry as well due to not paying attention. It won't wreck it unless you make a habit of constantly running the pump dry. As long as there is fuel flowing, there is fuel cooling it so the only thing that will eventually harm the pump is running it dry.
