Alternate spare location
I hate the spare hanging under the tailgate, getting covered in road dirt and rainwater.
A couple of online places show bed mounted brackets but only for F150/250 and non Ford trucks.
Anybody know of a supplier for Ranger bed?
I reckon a plain powder coated steel bracket on the passenger side, either behind the cab or on the side wall.

Re: Alternate spare location
Moving the spare to the bed, if you can find the proper mounting hardware, does mean you'll have better access, and the spare won't get as dirty, but you will lose bed space.
If it's just a matter of keeping the spare clean, just wrap the spare in plastic and leave it underneath - at least that's what I did; I don't care much for crud and dirt etc. all over the spare either.
Another thing about the spare tire carrier - it's prone to rusting up and "sticking", not to mention that the cable can rust up and break, so I lower the spare every now and again and clean everything up and re-lube everything.
Takes a bit of effort, but it keeps everything in good working order.
-----------
P.S. Sorry, didn't mean to take it off topic a bit - as to your original question: don't know where you can obtain a spare tire mounting kit for the bed, but you may be able to adapt one of those other carriers to fit, perhaps?

Re: Alternate spare location
Machine: Can't find anything on the Fabtech webpage, do you have a link?
Novadk: thanks for the LMC link, I've requested a catalogue
North44: The truck is only used as "second vehicle" and I suspect the spare has rarely, if ever been moved from it's original location, I'm concerned that if I crank it down the whole damn thing will collapse! Experience shows that when I need the spare it will be a dark, wet and windy night when I least want to crawl under the truck!
Thanks to everybody.

Sorry to hijack. What do you use for lube/corrosion-protection? I was thinking of using a lithium spray grease. Shooting up into the hole that the cable drops down from...

Sorry to hijack- but i was wondering how to get the spare down from it's carrier. I bought the truck in march and tried to get it down but it seeem stuck. I'd like to lube the parts and put it in plastic so it works when i need to access it. I have a can of flat fixer and a compresser as plan B..thanks Tom

Some WD-40 to get rid of moisture; then I usually just lube it up with a lithium grease or a product called Fluid Film which also fights rust/corrosion.

All that crud that accumulates attracts moisture and corrosion. Besides, you could well ask: Why wash the outside of the vehicle? or Why rinse/spray the undercarriage? You may as well ask why some people shampoo their engines.
To me it's all part of maintaining your vehicle.
I'm fairly certain that the majority of owners out there haven't ever even lowered their spare tire to see if it's even accessible - I check it out a couple of times a year (like to be prepared), so it's not much more trouble to try and keep it clean.
And one other thing, if you maintain the spare and its lowering device, it will last longer - I've seen too many pickups that have had the cable snap - possibly at the worst possible time, e.g. driving down the road, or have the mechanism freeze up and not even operate.

With the emergency jack, there should be a number of extension bars that fit together - the "end" piece, with a sort of flattened, slightly bent flat at the end, fits into the jack, as well as into the spare tire lowering mechanism - the opening is right in the middle of the rear, between the rear bumper top and tailgate bottom . . . crank that (there's another part that attaches and serves as a "handle") counter-clockwise to lower, clockwise to raise.
There should be a page with instructions. or maybe it's in the manual.

Wash up in the restroom? Carry some hand sanitizer? Or just carry some gloves?
Your old tire that you're removing is going to be dirty no matter what so trying to keep a spare clean so you don't get dirty is just impractical.

I just re-read this and realize I may have mis-interpreted your question; if you are asking how to lower the spare if the carrier is already pooched, then my best guess is that you will probably have to cut the cable to get the tire off, and then see what you can do to replace the winch.
If that's the case, then it looks to be a fairly involved job - but maybe you could check with a mechanic or a dealer to find out if that's even possible.
Anyway, if that is the problem you are having, then it's pretty safe to say that the previous owner(s) didn't do any preventative/basic maintenance on it.
