Default R.I.P U.S. Ford Ranger...

While mom was looking at a new Ford focus today which she's leaning towards just in case her neon takes a dump again. I asked the dealer about some of the new features on the rangers they just got in. He said as of December 31, 2011 he will not be able to get any ford ranger from the factory at all. I said b.s. man. He pulled a certified letter that was sent to him out of his back pocket from Ford Motor Company that said the last day of manufacturing for the U.S. version of the Ford ranger is December 22, 2011. I couldn't believe it man. I wish I had my camera there to take a photo of that dealer's letter from Ford Motor Co. Now what is it going to be replaced with if anything?

----------

The letter I saw said that they'll still have parts and service from 2007 up until this model year's end. That means 2006 and older is now considered a "classic" basicly. That letter I seen today told me alot. But I did get to see a new 2012 302 Boss Mustang today. dealer said he got it in yesterday and sold it today for $42K.

It's actually had a couple of reprieves from Ford. They were going to axe it years ago.
The last time was in 2008 IIRC.
Among other reasons, It's built in the oldest Ford plant that Ford says doesn't fit into it's supply chain anymore.

I don't know, he didn't really say. The 4 banger will be there a while he only had one of those, but he said he couldn't keep the 4.0 SOHC's on the lot for more than 2 days. In fact he sold one of them before it even got off the truck. The cat loved the vista blue metallic paint and bought it without even looking at the price tag. I heard this rumor about 4 years ago, and today his certified letter confirmed it as to the exact date.

I feel proud to have one of the last year's its being made. This is 2nd Ranger, and I've wanted one since I test drove a 1981 back in, well, 1981!

Yeah that sucks man. The only difference between this thread and the others that have been posted is that this one has an actual date and it's been confirmed by a local newspaper where the ranger is currently produced. Another member already posted the article up, and the certified letter that the dealer showed me today in which it outlined the details of how it's going to happen which came from Ford Motor Company. The other threads never gave an actual date before and Ford never would confirm this either, but now they have. I'm not really saddened by the news that Ford will no longer produce the ranger in the U.S., but I am sad about the fact that 900 workers will lose their jobs 3 days before Christmas. That really puts a damper on their holiday season. Here's another sucky part about it. That plant will be closed just before it turns 100 years old. That plant opened in 1912 and has seen alot of history through the years and this country has just lost a piece of american history.

This is a Tragic event and will be remembered throughout automotive history...unfortunately along with major corporate changes, the necessity to release "See=Screw over" employee's in attempt to save petty cash has always been a downfall in the poor economic history of the USA in general..

Those people put their blood, sweat, and tears into these fine peices of automotive art..and for all that work..this is the end result..

It truely saddens me that Ford of all companies would make such a drastic move, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel!!

We have all known and loved our Rangers, and will continue to do so throughout the years..instead of going to the local auto parts store for what we need, we can connect later in life through swap meets and car shows just like our forefathers did with the 50's,60's,70's renditions of the vehicles we adore today..

Is it truely time for our next generation to see a New model of vehicle to love and adore?

Is the Ranger truely dead? nah..just faded a bit more..but always having a warm spot in the hearts of the hard working men and women who continue to drive them daily..

Tragic??? Drastic??? Automotive art?

That's all a taaaaaaaaaaaaaaad dramatic.

The truck ran it's course. It was around a long time.. I'm sure there will be a replacement for it in the future if the market is there.
