Default One of my Gauges started tweaking out while idling....

The other day i was running errands all over the place and as i was stopped at a red light noticed the H/L gauge with the upside down boot thing on it tweaking out but once i got going again it was fine and did this the whole way home it didn't affect the ride or anything or performance and when i ran to the store today it didn't do it so i am curious if anyone has any idea why it would of done that. I was blasting my music the whole time not sure if that had anything to do with it or that i kept punching the gas when accelerating from the red lights and such.

The truck is about to go BOOM!!

lol

but in all seriosness, I drive the Search and Rescue truck for my city, and every so often the oil pressure guage starts spasing out like in the video, xecpt sometimes the needle goes all the way around the display Doesnt affect the truck at all and it only seems the happen at red lights or when the truck is idleing at an emergancy scene, but my guess would be that the oil pressure sending unit on you truck might be FUBAR

upside down boot to me sounds like the Oil Pressure gauge. And yes these trucks are sometimes know to have flaky sending units. I hate how Ford used the generic High and Low for Temp, Oil, and Volts.

Not that bad it stayed in the middle and wiggled a lot.

None of the warning lights came on when it was doing this so i am not sure.

A friend of mine's 2002 edge does it almost that bad in the video. Finally it flipped somehow and now the needle rest's under the needle rest pin. I've reset it a couple of times for him.

It happens worse when he doesn't give quite enought of gas when releasing the clutch and the engine stalls a little. I don't know if your truck is a stick or automatic.

Unfortunately I have no solution for this. Maybe someone which has this happen before and found a solution would share their fix here.

That is the Oil Pressure gauge (not temperature...). By design, it will only read zero or middle. The pressure sender on the engine block is just a pressure switch, not a sender or sensor. It does not indicate specific pressure. The switch closes at 7psi providing a ground to the instrument cluster. There is a resistor in the instrument cluster that applies the right resistance to make the needle show right in the middle.

If the needle drops below the middle or bounces around between the middle and bottom, it means one of three things:
1) The oil pressure is less than 7psi
2) The pressure switch is broken
3) The wire/connector at the pressure switch is loose

If the needle is reading above the middle, chances are something is wrong with the instrument cluster.
