I just didn't get why people were so worried about it. Glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks its completely un-needed

In California, they have red light camera's, and if you run a red light, the camera gets a shot of your license plates. Some people have those screens over them (is that what were talking about here?) and that's illegal, because the camera can't read the plate.

No. We're talking about people erasing or blurring the license plate in a photo with photoshop or paint.

I haven't looked up Kansas DMV info, but in all my many years in that line of work, I've never heard of such a thing. They're public records. I find it unlikely that the DMV will not give you the information if you fill out a form and pay the fee.
What, you can't access another person's info. It isn't public record at least not in Ohio. Only those who are "entitled" like DMV or police dispatchers, and then they have to have a reason -- they can't randomly look up someone's info based on a plate number.

Identity theft? A license plate is not a form of identification and doesn't pose any risk of identity theft. The only information the DMV stores is your name and address
Not true. In Ohio, employees at the DMV have full acess to social security number as well. A law was passed years ago allowing drivers to take there S.S.N. off there physical license, but anyone accessing the database can still see it. In fact, our DMV has had several issues with workers stealing people's info. and reregistering cars and taking out loans etc.

I think you might be surprised what you think is not available really is. There is a difference in access and rules for people in their official capacity (dispatchers, officers, etc) and what the public can get if they ask). It IS public record. Its on a government computer system and obviously minus a SSN, is available to the public if the process to obtain that information is followed. I can go to my DMV to request motor vehicle or license information on anyone I want if I pay for it. I can go to the state police or local PD to get anyone I want's criminal history too.

Not to go too far off topic, but I looked up somebody I knew on the internet with just a first and last name, approximate age, and ended up with her address and a satellite picture of where she lives. Then I had to go there just to make sure!

----------

And it didn't cost a dime.

These are why I stated earlier that each states laws are different as well as the information that is attached to the plate will be different as well as the access to the information attached.

Do what you will when posting pics. To me, it's not a big deal if someone chooses to display their plate or not. Apparently to some, it is.

I think you mean "WHILE" I'm ahead...

And who cares? I think its messed up to do that instead of just asking the person... It's less creepy that she's a chick I suppose.. But it's messed up nonetheless.

I didn't have any other contact info and she doesn't do facebook. Now that we are in touch again we exchanged phone numbers, and talked about how both the boys we used to date are dead. Very sad.
