Default Is the rear-end on my 2011 Ranger shot already at 6K miles?

My '11 2.3L Auto has 6K miles on the ticker and I think I might have a rear-end issue brewing? When I'm cruising 45-50 ish and I'm on the gas truck is silky smooth and no noise present. as soon as I lift off the gas and coast I get a howling sound or a whirrrrrr whirrrrrrrrrr from what sounds like the rear of the truck. as soon as I apply gas it goes away. I didn't realize this was a problem until another Ranger owner I had spoke with earlier in the day told me a story how his '01 Ranger 4.0L needed a new rear-end when it was brand new because the ring & pinion set didn't mesh correctly. This got me thinking mine might be shot too. Is this normal for a Ranger or does it sound like I have a problem?

I hope that isnt the case, but I would think if the rear was going you would hear the noise all the time. Luckily for you, its a new truck, so take it to the dealer and let them diagnose that issue

Might be, but I have to check. It's been over 100 degrees here over the last few days.

Mine makes a whistle noise as well when I step on the gas. It is only with the ac on though.

The rears in both the '96 I owned, and the '03 I currently own had/have a slight whine when coasting.

I haven't noticed any noises coming out of the back of mine except for the exhaust note.

mine with 23k on it has no whine or noise. backlash could have been set wrong. you still have a warranty, take it in. say its making an "abnormal" noise so they cant BS you and say its normal unless they drive it

i had the same prob i thought it was my diff at one point but it actually was my u-joints on the driveshaft and they actually in time took out my rear diff bearings and crush sleeve. check the u-joints bro u never know.

On my 09 ford ranger sport 4x4 4.0l had to have the rear diff workend on at 750 km or 454 miles due to a whistling sound when coasting at highway speeds.

why are you concerned if it makes a noise? Just take it to the dealer.
thats what your warranty is for.
