does AC turn off on a Ranger

I have a 2007. The AC works great but sometimes it is not so hot out that I need to run it so I turn the air flow vents (not the fan) to off. But I want some air flowing so I trun the dial to one of the regular settings, not Defrost, and I still get AC air. Any ideas on what the issue is? Does the AC just run all the time on these trucks?

how long is the air still AC cold for when you turn it off?

do we even have outside air vents? id ont think we do, only ac and heat...

i wish we did! my dakota had a vent at my feet and i LOVED it

I don't think the Rangers have ever had outside vents but i could be wrong.

i think the only time the AC is off is when the dial is turned to off, just the top vents open, and defrost, other than that the pump will be turned on. Just checked the owners manual but could be wrong

Sounds pretty consistent in the resonse. AC is on. Soooo.. Why does it have an AC selection on the dial if it is always on? I wonder if when I turn the temp dial to the mid point between hot and cold... does the AC unit work just as hard or less. I am now thinking of gas consumption. If it is always on does it make any difference how I use it in terms of gas consumption.

AC runs in all selections except OFF, PANEL ONLY and FLOOR ONLY. This has been standard for the last 10-15 years. When set the knob for MAX AC or OFF, a damper closes the outside air intake and opens the inside air intake. This makes for even colder air in MAX AC and no air flow at all when in OFF. All settings except MAX AC and OFF get fresh outside air.

i cant figure out with my truck tho, the A/C engages and disengages in every setting except off. any thoughts why?
btw, my A/C is charged correctly and works great. i cant figure this out

Are you sure. If you put it in panel only or floor only, I'm sure it won't run the AC. If it does, the HVAC selector on your dash is broken.

i just went out and checked. it does it as it should. one thing im confused on is why does it kick in for panel and floor?

Huh? Did you word that wrong? You said it works as it should, then asked why it runs in panel and floor?
