Smile Changing Parts

Hi I am new here so this is my first post. Hopefully i do this right. I have a 1997 Ford Ranger Ext cab 2 X 4 with a 3.0L and a 5 speed and i have to change the motor & transmission. I have access to a 1996 Ford Explorer that has a 4.0L. I have several questions that I hope the experts here can answer.

1. Will the 4.0L from the explorer bolt right in? The motor will come with all the wiring and computer etc. Will I have to change any parts in relation to the A?C etc.

2. What type of vehicle can i get a 5 speed trnasmission to work with the 4.0L?

3. Will any of the interior work on my ranger ie: the sterring wheel column/power windows/seats/overhead console etc.

4. The a/c setup from the explorer is it the same in the ranger? My truck originally came with A?C but when the motor was changed the first time all of the a/c equipment got damaged.

I appreciate any help that I can be given I just want to make sure that I am buying the proper parts. I found the 3.0L motor was pretty much gutless and the mileage was a crappy 18mpg on the highway I would think that it should have been higher and the city worked out to about 13mpg. Of course maybe the 621000 km on it might have had soemthing to do with that. Would anyone know the specs for the 1996 Ford Explorer 4.0L motor and one other question will the rear end on this explorer fit on my ranger? Thanks look forward to the help and thank you

If you think you're gonna get better MPG's with the 4.0, you're in a fantasy world. The only thing you gain with the 4.0 is hp and cubic inches. And a 15 year old motor isn't necessarily gonna be ready for the drag strip. As for your questions, most of what you listed will swap out, however I'm not sure on the windows, the a/c, or even if the wire colors and connectors are the same.

USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION! so many people have asked this question and started threads on it on here and different forums it's ridiculous. you will find answers to every single question you asked, and more often than not pictures to accompany the swaps.

X2. Basicly just about everything is the same with exception to the wiring. The color coding I noticed is different along with some of the connections.

X2. I would've suggested the same thing really. How's your project coming along? I ask because you have not updated it in a while.

A 97 ranger with 621,000km on it?? Good lord.. save yourself some trouble and find another ranger with less km on it.

Why do you wanna go through all the trouble of an engine swap from an old 96 explorer? Sounds like a waste of time and money that will end in disappointment.. Certainly the explorer is a turd by this point otherwise you wouldn't be pulling the motor from it... and your truck is gonna have bigger issues than just a motor swap.. It's old and WELL used and unless you want a money pit, it may be time to move on with another vehicle.

Scrap prices are pretty high right now... Between the Ranger and the Explorer you could probably pocket about $600... but best of luck to you whatever you do.
