Default limited slip diff oil change..

My 03 ranger fx4 calls for limited slip additive and in the rear it wants 75w-140.

Auto zone has mobile 1 ls... I'm assuming this has the additive in it but it does not say on the bottle... they have this tube of limited slip additive... I just bought this truck and am trying to change all the fluids...the mobile 1 in that weight is 18 bucks and I need 3 of them,.. any advice?

The front diff needs 80w-90 which I have.. but it also calls for 4 oz of limited slip additive.. I will add the additive to that one..

Help.... thank you...

Buy 3 bottles of 75-140, and a tube of L/s additive. Comes in a blue toothpaste tube looking thing. Get to the diff, take the plug out, open the front of the diff cover to drain all fluid. then make sure all the old oil is out of the crevices, close the diff cover and make sure it is gasketed properly and bolted, put the L/s additive in FIRST, then the 3 bottles of gear oil through the plug. close plug and you are done

Sweet.. thanks for the info...

What about the front differential? Same thing? With the 80w-90 and the tube of additive?

What does the manual call for. Is it a limited slip

Some gear oil comes with the additive in there already. Be sure to read the label.

I know thats what im worried about.. I was reading on Mobile 1's website that it does contain the limited slip addative.. so I will not need to add any..

However the stuff that im putting in the front differential will require addative...

Friction modifier is required to be added to Ford's Traction Lok LS rear end, and according to my manual, the Torsen LS rear end requires synthetic, but also specifies a bottle (around 4 oz) of the additive (which was about $5.00 CDN straight from the Ford dealer).

I haven't ever heard of friction modifier required for the front diff, and my manual doesn't list it as a requirement.

The front differential isn't limited slip, so it doesn't need the additive.

Check your manual though. If I remember correctly, if you have synthetic in the rear axle, it is considered a lifetime fluid with not change required.
