I voted 5K cause I didn't think it would be in miles. Every 5000 km for me with nothing but Mobil 1 synthetic 5W30 (except for the conventional stuff that came with it from the factory before the switch to M1) and a Motorcraft filter. I just follow my dealership's maintenance schedule.

The manual says every 7,500. However since my old Ranger had 98,000 when I bought it I used to split that difference, changing the oil every 3,750. I switched from Motorcraft to Valvoline high mileage full synthetic (which actually increased my fuel economy by almost 10%) after my third oil change. I figured with the high mileage the more frequent changing would probably be a good idea. Even if it didn't help it couldn't hurt (the truck was still running great when I sold it at 300,000+). The odd number also kept the oil changes in synch with the regular maintenance schedule of 7,500 miles.

Since my new Ranger had only 5 (five) miles on it when I drove it off the lot, I'm really not sure if I need to stick with the 3,750 or use Ford's recommended 7,500 schedule, let alone for how long. I'm currently browsing the forums to see what y'all have to say on the subject.

If i put synthetic in i run 7-8K, if i put regular in, i run 5K. i however dont do much driving, so i usually only do 3-4 per year. every 3 months is usually safe for me.

With the cheapest oil and filter, you should be able to run 7500 miles between changes. As long as you used the recommended viscosity. you will. be fine. Hey I used to be a strict 3000 mile OCI guy. Then I started hanging out at BITOG. The bottom line is that modern oils are specced so high, that the old advice doesnt apply anymore. My first BMW, I bought with an unknown history and 150 K miles on it. It had a manageable qt in 1500 miles leak. The car has a low oil level light. Great feature. You pay attention to the low level lights and you'll never boil your bimmer, well, hardly ever. I drove the car for 12 yrs and put another 200k miles on it. Cheap dino oil and store brand filters. With a decent maintenance, engines run forever these days. You dont need great oil, you just need oil

I've been running Mobil 1 full synthetic since the truck was new. I change oil every 10,000 miles, with a filter change and top off every 5,000 miles. I could probably let it go longer than that, but 10k is what I'm comfortable with. Since I'm not that far from work, that averages out to about two oil changes per year. 97,000 miles on the truck and no problems...

I only drive it about 3 too 5ooo miles a year, but I change the oil every spring and fall, so its clean and fresh regardless. Also use valvoline maxlife with purolator pure one filters, will keep the filters but try Pennzoil high mileage this fall too see if it likes it better.

Every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 Synthetic and a Motorcraft oil filter on both cars.

If a person drives 5k miles a year, do you all think it would be safe too use mobil1 high mileage and just change oil once a year? I'm doing a spring and fall change right now, but if I can get away with once a year changes using a good synthetic, it would be great. Thanks for the input in advance.

I sold cars for 20 years, and told my customers the minimum was every 6 months or every 6000 miles for conventional oil. I think once a year and up to 10,000 is probably OK for full synthetic, but more miles than that just seems too long. I'll have to do some research.

I don't drive mine much and change it once a year with royal purple. Never had a problem.

How do you not drive more than 5000 miles in one year. That's just insanity.
