That is no longer true. You can switch with no problems. The biggest issue was that the swell properties of petroleum oil and synthetic were different. That is no longer the case.

Was watching the news and thought about this thread.

The reporter asked 4 garages and 3 dealerships about the oil change intervals, she got answered between 3-4000miles. Honda wrote in the manual that the recommended interval was 7500miles between changes because of the new oil making standards.

Ford recommends 6 months or ~7500miles for my model w/conventional oil, could synthetic possibly mean i could change once a year?

It's possible. Actually, the newer model Hondas have even longer oil change intervals. I never did an oil analysis to see how long I should do oil changes with synthetic, so I stick to the recommendations in the manuals of my vehicles. I don't know about other vehicles, but Honda now has a maintenance minder that samples the oil and flashes a maintenance code when the oil is down to 15%. I know my 2011 Ranger doesn't have that.

Am I wasting money by doing so? Probably but due to laziness and the fact that it doesn't hurt anything other than possibly my wallet, I'm not in a huge rush to find out.

That's why it took me so long to switch because that's what I was told, but I changed over 2 oil changes ago and no leaks at all

Every 3 k all the time, i do alot of crap with my truck, and with over 90,000 miles of someone else having it, you never know if they took good care of the truck.
i dont care if oil companies say their oil can last up to 7500 miles. after 3000, unless you kept up with the oil changes since the first day you got it, the oil is normally always black anyways.
