I dont use hoses on my engine.

I take a bucket with a 50/50 solution of Simple green and water.

With a sponge i wash the dirt off. Then dry it off. Then spray plastic and rubber protectant on the plastics.

First cover up distribution box, alternator, and coil packs with aluminium foil. Spray engine down with Simple Green. Let sit a few minutes. Now take a soft bristle brush and scrub stuff down using a bucket and water if necesarry.

Once its all scrubbed spray down with water hose. After its all sprayed down you can either dry with a towel or let air dry.

I then take Meguiar's Natural Shine and wipe down all the plastics and she's all done.

I put some Dawn dish soap with HOT water in a small pump-up sprayer, spray the whole underhood area down, let it sit and work for a couple of minutes, then hose off with a garden hose. To dry it, I use the blower attachment from my shop vac, then do a final wipe down with a synthetic chamois. I have a cone-style air filter, so I take that off and stuff a plastic shopping bag in the MAF.

I would cover up the alternator, dist. box, battery, and remover air filter.

It wont hurt anything water gets onto the engine when going through puddles anyways.

I like to get the engine warm then spray simple green on there. Let it sit for 10 minces then hose off.

Yeah basically that was my main concern was getting the engine and other components wet...i wasnt sure if it would hurt anything...but covering up those few things makes sense and im gonna give it a nice wash probably tomorrow..
