Botta Ranger. I have been on these auto forums since Al Gore invented the internet. I have had a dozen or so arguments with different members. You are the 1st to criticize my signature. I have received at least a 100 PM's telling me how my sig/profile helped them and how they created a similar signature. A good signature realy helps when DXing issues. On my truck just having the No A/C tells someone my tstat is easier to change. It also let's people no I don't have a heater control valve, etc, etc. I put the fluids in there so new members see what they might use on there truck. I have a pic of my truck not because I think it is great but just for the opposite reason. It is an ugly duckling but I still take care of it with some pride

Sometimes this Media is tough to understand if you are joking or being serious. Maybe you were just trying to be silly and sarcastic and then it was taken differently. We are all big boys here. Why not just relax and have some fun. If you happen to be a angry, wannabe alpha Male there is not much I can do to help you.

Yes this thread was only made because i knew nothing about cleaning the engine and its components. Im sorry to the forum mods and whom ever else that this thread has now grown into an argument.

@ Botta, if i asked why do we clean our engines then your words here on this thread would make sense, but i didnt ask that.

So if the mods would like to close this thread that would be fine, because some of you have provided some nice links and advice on how to clean my engine and i appreciate that alot.

Thanks again and Im srry this thread got out of hand

It happens. It's one of the joys/risks of a public forum. It's a roll of the dice every time you post...

Absolutely nothing! The hood keeps it covered up. That's what its there for.

Wink Re: What do you do to clean your engine?

I usually go to the self serve car wash, spray the engine compartment down with Simple Green or similar, and rinse it clean.
I don't think using a pressure washer is going to cause any problems. At least in the 34 years I have been driving it has never caused a problem.
Now, I suppose if you stick the nozzle right up close and against areas that use a seal, you might get water pass it. But if you use some good common sense judgment, and cover certain parts as mentioned earlier you'll be fine.

I have a reputation with friends for my clean engine compartments. I have been kidded over it, but it sure is nice if I do have to work on the vehicle. Aside from cleaner hands you are far less likely to get dirt in places it doesn't belong.

I too believe a clean engine has a better chance of running cooler.
