Default 1993 Ford Ranger found tranny fluid in engine oil?

Drained the engine oil and found tranny fluid in it. It is also dripping tranny fluid on the ground. It has a 4.0 and is a 4x4.

What could it be?

Yeah the transmission and engine are sealed from each other and only mechanically operate together. it would have to be a MAJOR torque converter leak paired with a MAJOR main engine seal leak to even remotely mix the two, and even then it would mix in the transmission bell housing and out the bottom of the transmission/engine area. There is the possibility of the engine oil and trans fluid mixing in cooler lines but ONLY if your car is equipped with those and both lines are damaged. You're most likely scenario is someone accidentally poured tranny fluid into the crankcase.

Sounds pretty unusual. The only thing I can think of is that there is a leak in the torque converter that is running down into the oil pan through the main bearing seal. Never heard of trans fluid in engine oil....wait a minute. Do you have oil cooler and transmission cooler lines going to your radiator? You may look there for problems especially if you had work done on the engine or transmission lately. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

Tranny fluid? You best not oil your engine with trannies any longer. I'll bet there's a law against that somewheres.

It may be related to what is being poured into it. I bought a toyota one time that the owner said was using a tremendous amount of oil, two quarts or more a day. I drained it and found it to contain diesel fuel instead of oil. Put oil in it and it ran great.
