Re: new old truck
it's pretty much all been done. diesels, big v8's, electric.... you name it.
you could put a hydrogen fuel cell in it, or make it a hybrid.

Make it run on vegetable oil, That would be different, but as stated earlier, its all been done before. Unless!!!! Monster garage it, turn that Ranger into a lawnmower or Donut factory .

Re: new old truck
DO IT!!!!, there's a company here in georgia i think its called shade tree conversions. he puts a 4cyl ford tractor engine into an f150 with a 5sp, and gets 50ish mpg he says, He also did a 3cyl ford into an f150, and a 4cyl tractor engine into an old mustang II. though id highly recommend putting a turbo on it for better performance, and maybe a good exhaust setup with maybe a muffler since tractor engine are def loud lol. here a video from him.
i have an old Massey Ferguson 245 diesel tractor I've always thought about swapping in, glad to know someone likes the idea as well!!

Re: new old truck
The 289 is a different approach as well as a tractor engine swap, but other than that about all I know that you can do would be chop the top and turn it into an old school hotrod project, or turn it into a ratrod. Ratrods seem to be extremely popular these days, which I noticed at the last carshow I attended this year on memorial day weekend.

Re: new old truck

I'd go with a Ford 9 inch rear end with 3.73 rear gears, 31 spline axles, and a limited slip rear diff. The 9 inch rear end will be able to handle the power output that you stated earlier of your tractor engine.
