Default 14" snow tires???

Hi guys , I own a 1994 Mazda b3000 2wd. I've heard because of the weight distribution of the rangers they can be a handfull in the snow. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good choice for 14" snow tires for my truck. It's a 3.0 5 speed. Here in NY we have been getting lots of snow lately with all the global warming..thanks Tom

There isn't a lot of choice out there. I know Cooper makes a 14" winter tire.

I have a set of Arctic Claw TXI in 205/75-14 for my 1996 Mazda 4x2...reason I bought it is a cheap, entry level winter tire. My stock tire size is 225/70-14, but the winter tire availability in this size is very limited.

Make sure that you add weight over the rear tires...250-300 pounds is typical for me.

I had a 2 wd 2000 Ranger for 8 years. Forgot the brand but top rated for ice by consumer report. Hell they had sand in the tread rubber and it wouldn't pull the hat off an elf going down hill. I've been driving for over 40 years and don't know of anything worse for winter traction. Finally got an old 4x4 beater to get to town in winter and now a 4x4 Ranger.

Agreed on the weight in the bed. Hell, even with a 4X4, I would still throw weight in the bed!

I agree with it being fun in the snow but my buddy with his mint 4x4 ranger spun out on the whitestone bridge in NYC last winter in a snow storm so being an old boyscout I though it was good to be prepared with some cement bags over the rear axile and some beefy snow tires..thanks for the reply

^This.

Cooper Discoverer ATR, i had them on my truck last winter. They are an excellent all terrain tire imo. But they've changed it around recently and now have the Discoverer AT/3, Now do they make them in sized for a 14" rim, dunno.

Not a good tire after the first few of years of use. Traction on wet roads was terrible near the end of their tread life. I actually got new tires a little early because of that.

I didn't have them on the '98, so I can't say if they make 14" tires or not though in the Discoverer ATRs.
