when i had the 3.0 it was hard to take off and get up to speed with out hiting 4000-4500 rpm with the 5.0 you can get up to speed faster at 3000 then the 3.0 at 5k lol

if you go with a 4.0 be sure you budget for headgaskets as you will need them.... sooner or later

haha then why did my 3.0 have blowen headgasket on one side and cracked head on other? lol

x2 on my 3.0 drivers side head gasket. hence the 302 swap

Hmm ive had 3 4.0's over a 12 year period with no headgasket issues, or any other major issues for that matter. With over 475,000 miles combined on those 3 motors with no issues I can say they have been a great motor for me.

I have a buddy with a 99 3L 4wd and that one time he's driven my 01 4L 4wd he couldn't believe how much more power I had then him and he has nowhere the weight in his truck as I do and I have bigger tires

when my 3.0 went i had a hard time decideing on 4.0 or 5.0 but i wanted to be difrent so went with the 5.0! lol

might as well go with a 5L when doing a swap or perhaps 289, I might go with a 289 H.O. if my 4L bites the dust 20 yrs down the road.
