So I got on the highway today, but had to get ahead of a convoy of gravel throwing rock trucks. This required me to have to put the hammer down to merge. The thing is by the time I was ahead enough to merge I noticed my truck sort of ran out of steam per se. Just to be sure i tried to accelerate and the truck would not budge past 89 mph indicated on the speedo, but 86 verified via my GPS.

I know there is no reason a Ranger should be north of 70 mph, but in some situations when passing a vehicle will easily get to 80-90. Just trying to see if something is wrong with my truck or is this low speed limiter legit.

Its a 2.3 isn't meant for speed...all no rangers are but Im not sure what the limiter on your truck is. I know on mine its like 103 or something near 100...

All have a speed limiter, though i dont really ever plan on hitting it, and i think all automatics have an rpm limiter in park and neutral.

my 01 cuts out at 84 on the gps, 92 on the speedo. But I have smaller tires than what is needed for the 4.10 gears. My 97 would go to at least 112 with 32's. These trucks should at least get you up to the 90 range before dying off. Sometimes you need to put the hammer down, like you say. Shit, we were up north the other day I told my wife how shitty it would be having to drive back 40 miles if she went into labor and only go 84, shed prolly pop in the truck!

btw, I know all about the driving fast and rangers are not for speed blah blah blah, but having my 97 to 112 was like riding on a cloud! Truck was smooth as glass! That little shimmy went right away! baahahahaha

my truck cruises on the hwy at 80-85 nicely with a 4.0 and i feel i still have a bit to go meaning more then 5 mph.
