Thats just it, I was running late the other day and was in the fastlane doing 82-85 ish. No kidding had traffic backing up behind me because they wated to go faster WTF? 86-90 seems rediculously low for a top speed. Does anyone know what the speed rating is on the oem Conti's that come on these trucks new? I think the speed rating on the tires makes differance on what the factory limits the truck at.

Years ago a buddy of mine had a convertible Z28 all stock, for some reason back in '96-98 can't recall what year it was but the V8 & V6 Camaro with the convertible were fitted with non Z-rated tires, they were good for 115 mph or something like that so GM governed convertibles at 110. Weird as hell because you could mash the gas at 60-70 mph and you would hit the fuel cut in about 2-3 seconds.

Same friends mom had a '92 ish Volvo we used to take out on back roads and see what it could do. It was a 740 Turbo wagon 5/speed or something like that. Fast as hell actually, could beat my first car an '87 Camaro Iroc-Z to 70 all day long. But what was funny was the governor was set at 110 for such a fast car.

I'm an old guy now at 33 and don't drive quickly at all unless I'm late or my kid is sick etc... but having owned so many fast cars I find it halarious in 2011 that a new vehicle is limited to 86 mph. I mean the traffic in Nor Cal and So Cal cruises at 85-90 in some places. Same with some rural places in Texas and the mid west.

I set mine to 80 so I don't shred my tires apart(rated for 85)

I had an '09 or '10 Ranger I drove for work when I did cable with Prince Telecom (company provided), and it topped out at 98 all day. It still had a ways to go too, even with 600-700 pounds of ladders/cable spools on the truck.

I've taken my 4.0 up to 107 back when I still had 235/75 15's... which was idiotic and won't happen again.

I've had mine at 118 mph before but it caused alot of problems later on down the road. Now it tops out at 104 mph which I have only had it that high once. It's a truck and it wasn't built to be fast. It was built to get the job done instead. If you need something fast, build it from the ground up or buy something and modify the crap out it. Yes it is best to go with the flow of traffic, but sometimes it is best to linger back a bit, especially with idiots on the roads today that can't put down the cell phones to save their lives.

I'm also 33... we are NOT old..

I had my '11 on the backroads the other day... the computer is set for the biggest tire combo (with my duratracs on) and I also topped out at 86(ish)mph with a 4.0L

I had an 07 with a 4.0 and stock tires and it would cut out at 110 I believe.

Maybe it does have something to do with the tire setting.

I wonder if a NASCAR style body kit with a LOW front pan and wing on the cab rear would give us more at the top end?

I'm happy to keep up with traffic - strangely, even with 109k+ miles on and an unknown service history my truck pulls away smartly from stop lights and leaves modern tin boxes in a cloud of dust and small pebbles (and that's NOT flooring it, just getting a move on)...

lol if someones going that fast let them pass and get behind them to change lanes. No reason to pass someone going 100mph

Its not just that. There's times when you need to get in front of a big-rigs, etc.

Oh and when the speed limits 80, 92 is NOT enough to pass
