Last week I got behind a Ranger which had the cab's third brake light flashing. The flashing light did make me take notice so I wondered if he has been rear ended before and modded the light so it would flash.

I'm pretty sure no Ranger came factory with flashing third brake lights so I did a Google search and came up with a kit, a complete unit and a how to using a flasher unit like the emergency flashers. The completed unit is programmable so you could have it flash like 3 times and go solid.

I've seen a few cars with flashing third brake light but they seemed to be factory installed.

Your thoughts on this?

its not constantly flashing...only when the brakes are applied...THAT is perfectly legal...a lot of new cars have a flashing 3rd brake light

Where did he say it would be flashing going down the road? It only flashes when you apply the brake.

I have seen motorcycles with similar deals.

Missouri just passed the headlight law 2 years ago.

I saw a mini van with that last night. It really caught my eye. I like the idea of it.

This is a mod that I've always wanted to do to a vehicle but never really looked into it. I'm guessing it involves more than just placing a regular old 2 prong flasher in series with your 3rd brake light wire(s)? Anyone know?

I think this is safer, especially if you live in a city and there are larger amounts of idiots who text and drive.

It should not flash for the entire duration the brakes are applied. It should be a flicker of some kind when the brakes are first applied for the first second or two.

all the ambulances around here are setup like that. it flashes about 3 times in a second then goes solid. I've been rear-ended and it's crazy the mods u think of to keep it from happening again!
