Default Re: How did you aquire your ranger?

i got a good story for mine. my dad bought it from a guy we both work with. the reason he sold it was his son drove it in water too deep and flooded it. instead of draining the water he had someone push him till he got around 30 mph and then he put it in 2nd and dropped the clutch. needless to say a valve or 2 got bent.... the guy took the motor apart and after a month or so got tired of messing with it. so my dad asked him if he was going to fix it or junk it. he said ill sell it to you for whatever you have in your wallet. dad had a 50 dollar bill. we hauled the truck home, took the head to a machine shop, had it ported and had all new valves put in. 200 bucks. bought a new timing belt 17 dollars. put everything back together and 2 weeks and 267 dollars later we fired it up. ran like a brand new truck. i borrowed it for a while and got in an accident (rear ended someone) insurance company called it totaled. dad got 2000 dollars from insurance claim and chose to buy it back for 400 dollars. we replaced all that was wrecked, basically just cosmetic things front end lights blinkers etc. for 100 bucks from the salvage yard. dad then said i can have the truck for 500. gave him 500 and now its mine. had 150,000 miles when dad first got it and now has 300,000. still runs and drives like a champ.

My dad gave me my 88 (auto) w/ 78k when I was 19, built up the 2.9L, then 5.0L swap. I've driven to Florida and back, fishing trips, lots of history - 9 years I've owned it. Rust is pretty bad on it, bought a clean '87 2.0L 2wd (manual everything) to replace it and I am sending my 88 to the scrapper. Sucks to do, but I am making out on the body work and I wanted a manual transmission. Kind of trading the sentimental value over actually being able to afford and end up with the truck I ultimately want, but it's only a truck...

The one I have now I bought when I learned they were being discontinued. It's a 2011 XL Reg. cab 5 spd.I just wanted a truck with good gas mileage. The Ranger was the last true compact truck.I'm getting it Rhino lined tomorrow and window tint fixed.

searched for a couple of months on craigslist as I was looking to get something to replace my beastly 99 jeep cherokee. That thing got through anything but had 190k miles on it and I was tired of fixing the rust on the lower part of the passanger door. Engine was startin to knock a tad and it needed new tires....I had a feeling I was going to be needing some serious work done to it very shortly....so when I came across an 03 ranger edge with 118k on the clock for about 6800 bones at a small dealership in Buffalo MN, I thought I'd trade the ol' jeep in. Tried to quick sell it in about 2 days cuz the dealer offered me only 2grand for the trade, but had no luck. Got the truck and the next morning got 3 calls from people wanting my jeep which was listed at 3 grand....DAMN! Anyway, ended up putting almost 2000 into the ranger within a month as it needed ball joints and rear brakes...almost shoulda kept the jeep!! Love my ranger now that's she all good to go!

Found mine at a Ford lot in 1990, sitting next to another 87' ranger that were used for trade ins. Chose this one because it only had 8,500 miles on it at the time and the paint was in better shape, for $8,000. Wish i would have changed over the motor sooner, but the 2.3l did it's job for 160k before it had enough...

Basically my story started out in 2002. I was getting tired of using greyhound buses to go to orientations for various trucking companies. If anyone has ever rode on a greyhound, you know that it takes twice as long to get from point A to B. I had just gotten a $2,400K performance bonus at that time. So I started looking at various models of trucks. The Frontiers, S10's, Tacos, Mitsubishi, Rangers, and F150's. The Frontier didn't really impress me at all. The Tacos wasn't really fitting my budget and plus the one that I did test drive broke down on me and the dealer (ignition coil was defective). Mitsubishi wasn't really that good either and they wanted way too much for the price tag. So I put it off for a couple of years and then I went to a local Ford dealer in march of 2004. The F150's came up but I really didn't need a truck that big and really couldn't afford it either. So the dealer, Greg Johnson pointed to the rangers they'd just gotten in. The first one was an extended cab and an automatic which at that time I didn't want an automatic tranny and it was just a shade out of my price range. Then I test drove the one that I have now. When I got back the rebates and discounts really lowered the price dramatically and I got it for around $13,500 brand new. My monthly payment was $310.54 a month and even with bad credit, I didn't have to put anything down at all. That dealer was extremely nice to me and the weird thing is that he didn't try to upsell me or shove another model down my throat like they do now either. That dealer left to go to another dealership and ever since then, that dealership has gone down hill. The S10's lost because one of the dealers tried to screw me over royally and he got caught after one of my bosses called him out in lie over the speaker phone right in front of the sales manager of that dealership. Ford Motor Company put me in a brand new truck at a rock bottom price when others kept telling me that I'd never would be able to get a new vehicle and always tried to screw me over. One cat tried to put me in a used KIA SUV and wouldn't even let me look at it.

My step dad bought mine before we knew him brand new off the lot in Georgia, met my mom through a friend when he was in the army they got hitched when I was 8ish, he drove it daily and finally bought a new truck my senior year of high-school. Been driving it for 4 years and just started modding it this summer.

Correction I guess its been 5 years now

I stole it.

I found my 1997 66K 1 owner on eBay. A private dealer was selling it that sells alot on eBay in Florida. I clicked buy it now and had them ship it to me. It was pretty much what he said it was as his rep was good on eBay. Did my own things to it and there it is.
