Default Not getting very much air out the ac ducts?

my 2007 Ranger air conditioning works ok except when it gets really hot and then its a real PITA.

When I have the blower on High I hear the blower spool up to full tilt but very little more air comes out the vents. Seems like the airflow is restricted. I have been all over the engine bay and under the dash looking for the air intake to see if I sucked something in it to restrict but can't find the booger! where is the air intake for the heater/ac system?

I was in Palm Springs yesterday and the A/C would not keep up with the temp there and gave up and rolled down the windows. Its blowing cold air just not enough to keep up on a really hot day.... As I click the fan motor I hear it gaining speed with every notch, but not so much out the vents

anybody have this problem before?

Thanks

joe

I like how you refer to the HVAC blower as spooling up. Needed LOL today.

The outside air intake is right in front of the windshield. That's what those vents are for. The inside air intake is behind the glove box. All positions except Max AC utilize only outside fresh air. Max AC moves the damper to close off outside air and open the inside air intake behind the glove box.

See if your air flow changes when you switch to Max AC. If so, something must be blocking the outside intake. If not, something is done fucked up under the dash.

Duh...Right there in front of my nose where its been on every other car I owned. Give me a Mulligan on that one, please.

I'll check that door behind the glove box because I get no more air flow on high even though I hear the motor speed up.

Hope its a simple vacuum hose fell off issue as I hope nothing is , like you say, "really fucked up" LOLOL

Thanks

Joe

----------

I checked that door and its opening on high cool. So I pulled the blower motor to see if foreign stuff was lurking there, nope looked fresh and shiny.

I went back and cranked it up and put it on high cool and watched that door open and I could see to the cavity that the blower usually sets in. The screen between the High Cool door and the blower cavity is almost plugged with crap on it, I have about an inch square that I could see thru.

I must have sucked a load of crap in at some time. Now if I can get a vac hose in there to clean it up, if not looks like I'm going to be missing a screen as I
m not going to disassemble the dash while my exacto knife is right here to deal with that pesky screen..

Thanks for the tip..... the High cool door tip is what put me on the right track

Thanks, again

Joe

I was able to tape a piece of fuel line on the end of my shop vac to suck out the crud and she blows like a champ now. Gotta make sure I got my seat belt on or I would blow right out the window LOLOL.

Cutting that screen away would have been a NO NO as whatever got passed that point would be in the AC coils and be a bear to clean out there, so I tried extra hard with a few swear words to snake the vacumm in the trap door

thanks again

Joe

Well, that screen is what prevents the intake from sucking up things from the floor when the damper is open, so removing it might not be such a wise idea. I'd try to clean it before you rip it out and leave it unscreened.

BUT, that doesn't explain why you're not getting air flow on fresh air because that screen has nothing to do with it. That screen is only for the inside air intake. Unless you're looking at something else.

That screen was at the entrance to the blower motor, not on the entrance to the duct. ANYTHING that went in the blower motor has to get thru that screen. That's why I wasn't getting much airflow at anytime especially on High.

I had enough air to keep it comfy at 85 degrees out side but when I went to the desert yesterday and it was over a 100 the AC just layed down and wouldn't keep up with the program. I rolled the windows down and did the 2/60 AC all the way back to the valley.

It has been diminished for a long time but would keep me cool so it wasn't really a problem yet. YESTERDAY it became a real problem LOLOLO

Ya you're right. Now that I re-picture that in my head, it is inside the intake, not on the opening. Glad it's working now.
