^^ Ditto! I'm running my air! ^^
Fireranger, Here's a photo of the electric fan in front of the engine fan.

In 2001 the Duratec 2.3s started using the electric secondary fans and they only run when the A/C is on. Helps keep the head pressures down at low rpm and idle, it also aids in cooling the aluminum engine too. Good idea and when it hits 98 degrees in Florida the A/C still blows 40-45 deg air from the vents.

Re: Air Conditioning and Gas Consumption
Did they do this for every 2.3L from 2001 till now?

Interesting! I had a 2001 Ranger but it had a 3.0 engine.

Only if the 2.3L 01-11 Ranger has A/C.

Some A/C units use a thermoswitch but the Ford systems use a pressure controlled switch instead. When the low pressure side of the A/C drops to a pressure level that infers a refrigerant temperature in the mid-to-high 30's F, the switch opens and shuts off power to the compressor clutch coil. The switch cycles the compressor on and off as necessary to maintain the inferred evaporator coil temperature as low as possible while remaining safely above the freezing point of water. It is cleverly named the A/C Clutch Cycling Pressure Switch.

Re: Air Conditioning and Gas Consumption
That is what I thought, as I have never seen any temperature/freeze sensors, wiring, or inputs. Is the high pressure switch based on some inferred value as well, or just there to prevent it from blowing itself up?

Re: Air Conditioning and Gas Consumption
Right, the A/C Pressure Cutoff Switch turns off the compressor if the system pressure gets high. For fail safe if the switch should fail, there is also a mechanical blow off valve that would trigger at an even higher pressure.
