Default Opinions?

I joined a little while back..and have been reading the forums ever since..project logs to be specific! Awesome job guys

I have a question about a truck I found. I want to know what you guys think, as I think it may have had some problems..
http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ280688801#

Do you think that truck really has all those 'new' parts? What would cause it to have all those new parts? Engine blow, accident? I think thats a little more than wear and tear, but you guys are the best here..lol. I can't find anything good around me right now(well I can find manuals but I don't want one). Other best one I have found is this..
http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ284255258

If you have any input(more specific to the first one) let me know..

Hey man welcome. I am still pretty new myself. The first one seems pretty cool. I have never been one to shy away from something that has been wrecked or something that has had problems in the past. My only deal with all of that work that has been done, is I would check it all out. Look at the new parts make sure they are actually new and decent, test drive it. Check the frame and make sure its good and straight with no bad welds and out of place welds make sure it hasn't been bent or warped. because most anything else can be fixed and still be safe. I actually just picked up a ranger that was wrecked and it is what I am driving and working on now. (the work that was done was horrible) so we are having to fix that stuff too. I was also wondering why you are so against manuals? It is all I drive. But the first one seems pretty good, just ask for receipts and check the work give it a good test drive, hit the highway. You should be fine, once they tell you why all the stuff was replaced, try and talk him down a little. Stuff like that can be a big plus for you.

The things about the second I like are the 4.0 and 4wd but if you don't need those which I would love to have them then I like the deal on the first one better if all those parts really are new.

I have some serious reservations on the first truck. If it really needed all that, WHY?

The second one seems pretty decent.

In either case, get a Car Fax report or the Canadian equivalent if you don't have car fax and check their record out. They aren't 100% but the report does provide some guarantees and protections.

Thanks. I might be able to check the first one out this weekend, not sure. And I would make sure to get all the info needed as to why there are so many 'new' parts. Hitting the high way is no problem. I also really like the looks of that one, the edge and stepside has caught me eye. I am not 'against' manuals, its more of I have never drove one. None of my family does, and neither do any of my buds...so it makes it hard to like one. I do dirt bike, but thats a little different than a truck in traffic.

I am liking the second one too. 4X4 isn't always needed..but being in Canada it is a bonus. I wish it had 4X2 and a switch for 4X4 because I think being in 4X4 is killer on gas..no?

We can get Car Fax reports here. How do those work..? Can you just get them on ANY vehicle or what?

Most of the new parts are in the brake systems and front suspension, so I don't see that coming from a blown engine. It could come from normal wear and tear and an overprotective owner like me, or it could have been an over abuse on the brakes issue. Maybe the brakes were not set up properly after someone performed a service and it caused a system failure that was easier to just change the whole thing than fix. With the front end parts about ten years on those model suspensions I am sure they could get pretty bad even with moderate wear from my experience I know others have gotten way better but not everyones trucks will perform the same and not everyone drives the same. I just needed to replace my brake shoes and hardware kits including new adjusters and all and since I was there I went ahead and added new brake drums, it could be something like that. Could be anything honestly until you ask questions. But I say try and learn to drive a manual some how you will thank yourself later! Oh and they will always run in 2wd until you shift in to 4wd and yeah 4wd runs gas quicker lol and on the carfax report you input the vin in to the website and it tells you about any accidents or certified services and different owners. I would ask the seller to pay for it because it is usually about 30 bucks.

Wow, thanks for the reply. I never even thought about that. I've done that on my bikes/dirt bikes before..you replace one spoke so might as well do them all. I can honestly say I didn't know most of those parts were in the front end. Thanks. I want to learn stick..but I don't even have a car to practice in...and theres no point in spending 5k on a truck thats manual if I can't drive it, or don't like it! So, even on that white one I posted, I would have to shift into 4wd? Huh, I didn't know that. On a friends jeep its 4x4 all the time, there is no switch or shifter. And ok, I wasn't sure on the carfax, I will make sure that is done then!! Now I want to go look at it even more this weekend. Its about 2 hours away from me..but its on a direct route to the cottage we stay at each year, so..yeah(The yellow one, that is)

Yeah the tie rods and ball joints and stuff could have been from a wreck but the body is showing no damage we can see and you can check that out in person. The rest is either brakes or normal maintenance stuff. and yeah some have push buttons others have a separate shifter normally in the center console. And I hear you on the manual. No need to buy one just pick up the skill sometime.

personally, id set it up with both sellers to meet and check out each truck, and take it for a test drive. last thing you want is to buy a truck you've never driven and have a million things wrong with it.

on a side note, check out the onatrio meet thread. maybe we'll see you out there this sumer OFFICIAL Ontario Meet Thread

Thats what I thought, about the switch. My Dad's Durango has it, well a friends Pathfinder has the shifter in the centre.

And I plan to meet up with any truck I look into, and if they don't let me test drive it they just lost a sale. I am set on that yellow Edge..so I hope I can get it soon! I only have my G1, so the meet is outta question till August or later!

Will do. We are going to Huntsville for a dirt biking weekend, and that Edge is RIGHT on the way..so I want to convince my Dad into stopping there on the way there..or on the way home, I don't care.

The other one I can go look at when ever, as its just in Missiauga, so its not that far.
