Ford Escape Vs the Ford Sport trac
Hey guys, A while back I started a poll asking what vehicle my fiance should buy, well those are pretty much all scrapped, new vehicle choices have appeared since Emilie wants something a little more rugged with some mild offroad potential but handles and has more the interior of a car.
She has seen the love that I have for my ranger and Would join the ranger family (one just like Marie or Disturbed) but since we want kids, 2 rangers are an option so I pointed out a few options for her:
Emilie loves the new Audi Q5 but at more then $44,000 for the 2.0T its a little expensive
so I suggested that she get a Ford Escape Xlt Sport appearance package:
Which she thoroughly loves but in blue.
She also loves the ford sport trac Adrenaline
But with used examples fetching close to the $40K mark and it coming with the 4.6L V8 (not a bad engine, just more then she needs)
She still loves the Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited,
but I think it would be too rugged and too offroad and too hard on gas for what she is looking for
****My question is what would be recommended, what vehicle would be a great grocery getter, DD, mild offroad for dirt trails, Carrying a Kayak, decent fuel econo, nice interior, and comfortable for a family?
My vote went to the Ford Escape XLT Sport with 3L, but Emilie thinks he 2.5L would be a better alternative since its rated better for fuel econo. Anyone wishes to express their opinion on any of these vehicles?
Please note that she would wish to stay close to the early $30K mark since it would be more reasonable to purchase.

Re: Ford Escape Vs the Ford Sport trac
jeeps are well.... jeeps. at least a chick will be driving it, if it were you that'd be lame. that escape you posted looks almost as off road worthy as a prius, same with the sport trac. body kits + nice rims = street truck.
are toyotas out of the question? the highlander would be decent.

Re: Ford Escape Vs the Ford Sport trac
Emilie would also like a Taco (not a fan of the highlander, she finds it too big) but with yotas fecthing close to or over $40K, she would like to stay close to the early $30K mark... I see what you mean about the offroad capabilities of those trucks but at most they would see would snow covered roads and gravel roads as well.

Do all Adrenalines come with the 4.6L? How much was the cost for yours at the end of the day and how is the fuel econo?

Re: Ford Escape Vs the Ford Sport trac
I will second that the 4cy Escapes suck. You can get in a brand new one and put the pedal to the metal and it just barely will ease off. My 3.0 ranger could do doughnuts around one. If you wait till the 2012 comes out though you could have this.

Re: Ford Escape Vs the Ford Sport trac
My CR-V is in the same class as the Escape and it will do everything you are talking about just fine. The four cylinder would be a bit weak and would probably get the same as the V-6 if the above quoted numbers are correct. I get about 25 mpg on the CR-V with the 2.0L. So, my vote is for the Escape. I've ridden in one and it isn't a bad ride either.
EDIT: You don't have a AWD choice available, I would go with the AWD whether she were to go with the four cylinder or the six.
