Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?
Both '00 and '06 3.0's have 220k miles on them today. The only major problem I've had was the need to have their auto tranny's rebuilt($2400/ea) a year ago. Both of them have oil pan/timing chain cover leaks(?), rusting on the inside door jambs and around the front radiator area and having to replace wear and tear parts but otherwise both served and is still serving us well. There were a couple of problematic areas of the trucks but feel it was due to "made in China" parts such as the water pump and ball joints replacements as they didn't last a year. "sigh""smh". I'll never buy/use "made in China" ever again if possible, got an oem water pump to replace the "junK' but no luck getting an oem ball joint as my installer told me it's all made in China, in which I don't know if it's true or not. lol
the mechanic mentioned I must be a die hard fan of Ford and I told em I'm somewhat happy with them but of the oil leak problems and had gotten a Tacoma. His reply, Tacos are expensive and what do you expect with over 200k miles on them, pretty much all vehicles with that mileage would.

Now you see another problem.. Mechanics are kind of dumb. They will sell you bad parts, then give you a poor excuse like "they are all like that". Try looking for a better shop.

I had gotten a flyer from a bigger shop for 1/2price wheel alignment and they caught me with the front end problems. You know I should have known better but my cheapskate nature got the best of me.
yeah, I'm back to a trusty mechanic shop I trust.

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?
KemoSabe, my 2011 XL just began his teen years a few days ago!

I think it's somewhere around 100,070 at the moment. I thought the odometer would add the 1 to the right of the rest of the numbers, but instead it just dropped the decimal, leaving the right portion blank.
Perhaps that's so it has room when it reaches 1,000,000?

That's good Pocho. I've had a couple of not so good events. Like you say, wanting to go cheap and you place your trust in them. One trans shop did a fine rebuild job, but the installers got the torque converter tilted. They would not fix it, so had to pay another shop. Other than that, the truck has given me 20 years of good service ! Still running great.

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?
http://www.fordrangerforum.com/membe...-original.html
Milestone met today. Half a million miles on my 2002 XL 4x4.
Ex company vehicle, received new with 80 miles on it. One water pump change out. All else original.
Ran on synthetic Mobil 1 since day one. 7,500 miles on oil changes. Company sold it to me for $800.00
since it was off the Kelly BB chart and I knew the service history. Still pops great oil pressure, I've never seen it vary.
But I can tell it's a little tired and has the usual timing chain rattle now. Plan on a major soon. I just wanted to make
it to the mark so to speak.

Yes, I had a problem around the 445 mark. I took it into a shop to have it looked at. They told me I needed a new oil pan gasket and a few other this and that's at a cost I wasn't prepared for. I took it home and tightened as many bolts I could get to both bottom and topside. Afterwards, I noticed no problems at all and it's been that way since.

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?
Hi. My last post on this topic was in June of 2020 when I had hit the 500K miles on my Ranger. It's mid-November 2022 and I finally red tagged and towed for the major I was planning. I got a total of 518K. Been planning an A-Z overhaul for the last year and master engine kit with new heads have been purchased and set aside.

I'm closing in on 300K. With a 3.0 V6. I use a quart of High Mileage oil with each oil change. So far no leakes and still has low oil consumption. The High Mileage oil has conditioners for gaskets, valve stem seals and main bearing seals. I believe this has helped with longevity.

Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?
I'm on my 4th Ranger since 1988. All bought brand new - my 1988 SWB 2WD 2.9L XLT accumulated 181k miles before trading it in 2001 for a LWB 4 door Supercab 2WD 4.0L. The 2001 had 42k miles when I traded it in 2006 for a similar 4WD model. the '06 only had 41k miles when traded in on a 2019 4WD Lariat Super Crewcab, currently with less than 13k miles.
Issues:
The '88 was on its 3rd water pump and the HVAC system had been converted to R-134a because the accumulator/dryer had failed. Salesman bought it for his mom.
No issues with the 2001 after the 'silent recall' was performed to replace the noisy cam chains/tensioners.
The 2006 had the 4WD transfer case rebuilt after it failed for lack of use. Mechanic stated to 'use it at least once per month'. Frame rusted quickly - never repainted due to costs. Salesman purchased it for himself.
My 2019 has been completely trouble free. Have added numerous dealer and aftermarket options, including a powered, inbuilt moonroof. Have been following the 5th generation since it was released in 2012. The move to 'mid size' was overdue.
Edit: Factory shocks on the 5th generation are complete crap, with the exception of the Tremor and Raptor models, as reported. I replaced the factory shocks/struts with OEM style Bilstein 4600s all the way around for nearly $1,100 parts and labor. Makes a HUGE difference.
