Default Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

I'm at about 150k miles right now. 4.0L daily driving since 2009. Other than the thermostat housing cracking and needing replaced at about 120k the engine is still and has always run perfect. Surprising cause I'm still running the original spark plugs. Gunna replace them some time soon tho.

Default Re: How many miles? 289,500

My 1997 Ranger, actually a Mazda B2500 which I had purchased new, now has 289,575 miles on it. Other than replacing the timing belt when it broke at 210,000 miles, and changing spark plugs once around that same time, everything under the hood is original except the alternator, and the only reason I replaced that was because I couldn't find brushes for it at any auto parts stores. New brushes was all it needed, and I hated spending big bucks for a new alternator but was on a trip when the brushes wore out and the alternator quit charging. If I had been at home I would have made some brushes. It really gets my goat that you can't just fix things these days with inexpensive parts, and have to replace assemblies.

The clutch, transmission, and differential are original and still working fine. I was planning to pull the engine this summer and overhaul it, even though it still runs fine, to try and squeeze another 100,000 out of the truck, but yesterday when I took it in for an annual inspection it was found that the frame has rusted through in several locations. My guess is that they either used recycled steel in these frames or that the thickness was totally inadequate, or quite likely both were contributing factors. Now I guess I'll just keep it around as a farm truck until it dies. Replacing the frame would be a huge job that I wouldn't want to deal with at my age.

By the way, I used to get around 25 mpg with this truck, but built and installed a Hydrogen booster that gave me an average of 32 mpg. Here's a link where you can see the booster unit and details about a modification I made to the original plans after experiencing burns on the original PVC cap. See the "Explanatory Document File," which explains why the burns occurred, and how I solved that problem.

2004 with 163,000 miles. But it runs well and passes smog with no problems. Short bed, 2.3 L 4cy with 5 speed trans.

I replaced the upper and low ball joints and put new shocks all around, then got an alignment.
Much better. Brakes, tires and body are good.

It's perfect for the back roads.

Just hit 180,000 on my 01' today.

Daily it to work. I just drove it to PA last week to pick stuff up at my parents so a total of 500 mile round trip and despite it being painfully slow up certain mountain hills it did fine. At times I really wish I had more power in this 4 banger but so far it's done everything I wanted it to.

Angry Re: How many miles do you have on your Ranger?

I have two rangers both 4 cyl 5 spd, driver that each have things I like and some I dont.
The first one I owned is a 97 I have owned 7 or 8 years that had 189,00 when I got it and now has 274,000+ and waiting to turn over 300.
The second one I got a year ago is a 94 that has somewhere over over 200 or 300 + .
Both are great runners and reliable start and drivers except for occasional reapair and maintainence and low cost to keep.
The only thing that really gets me is why the hydraulics on the clutch system has failed on both, would much rather have adjustable cable.:

180,800km / 1.61 = 112,298 miles

not to bad for a ten year old truck.

My 2000 has 99k, and I've been averaging less than a thousand miles a month. Powersteering pump, thermostat, and some other little stuff has been replaced, but nothing too big.
