Re: how many miles on your ranger?
Had timing issues mainly which is really expensive, we have a 2004 explorer and the engine is bad so it's a part out

If you are referring to the timing chain rattle its not that huge of a deal if you catch it early on... Nothing wrong with a 2004 4.0

2004 should have updated guides, however, that still doesn't mean you shouldn't replace the screw in tensioners. If those go untouched, any model year 4.0 will have the rattle.

^^^^
Other than that the 4.0 is a pretty reliable engine

ThAt and the t-stat housing. Them fuckers will leak eventually. But that's minor. I've been thinking of replacing the tensioners on mine, just for a preventive maintenance. Have 103,000 on mine currently. In the 30,000 that I personally put on it the only "engine" problems was the t stat housing.

366800. Gotta love a 3.0 auto 4x4. From 98 till 2012 it was a business truck for a local hog hauling company. Sat till 2014 and I bought it for 400 bucks in 2014. Replaces front brakes and hub bearing assemblies and a new radio (had cassette player). Nothing else done. Original motor trans rear end and front end. Love it for a dd and hunting truck
