This pic illustrates why mounting off road lights as high as possble is imporatant. You can see sooo much farther down the "road".

they're brighter, yeah. but i'm pretty sure the upgrade to HID reduces the usefulness of fog lights for their intended purpose.

also, no cooling issues with any light set up i've had (pics on the first page).

Thats why there is a 3000k yellow HID. Works wonders in the fog

yea but fog lights arent meant to always be bright. bright light reflects back at you in fog.

no, fog lights are for FOG. putting HIDs in there may seem to brighten up the area in front of you but is far more hazardous to other drivers because of their design.

Fog lights are designed to under cut the fog, rain, or snow to reduce glare and allow you to see better. Not to brighten up things.

That is also why they are generally mounted low on the vehicle.

EDIT:Here is a sample light pattern on what each type of light does:

Depending on the light and their intended use, yes. The different colors in the picture represent the different types of lights, so not all lights will go out that far or that wide.

So fog lights are short and wide. Off road is more narrow and long. Driving lights are kind of in between. The light pattern on off road lights is also the driving factor on why they are required to be covered when one is driving on the road in many states.
