Angry Ford Service ---NOT Impressed

Two months ago, April 15 to be exact, I had my truck serviced at the local Ford dealer. An oil change and quick once over. Everything was fine, or so they said. Today, I took my truck to get the Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) done. It failed. Both upper ball joints are worn out. The passengers side is so bad that it was described as "dangerous" by the mechanic (My wife's 1st cousin). Oh, I forgot to mention that my warranty expired on April 25, just 10 days after Ford said my truck was fine.
There is no way that both upper ball joints went from fine to dangerous in 2 months. How could Ford have missed this... or did they? I am not impressed.
Of course Ford says all was fine when they looked at it, and that it's not uncommon for parts to fail that fast. I don't think so, and neither does the mechanic who found it. They were almost ignorant when I called them today. Anyway, lesson learned. I have spent my last $$$ on Ford Service! Thanks for letting me rant. I feel better now!

What concerns me is that your ball-joints are already bad on a 2008. How many miles are on your truck, and what do you use this truck for?

I personally think somebody is full of it, or the people who make Ford ball-joints are full of it.

I'll add some insight, change are the oil change guys where just dumb kids. I know where i work at i'm sure 90% of the time they haven't an idea what is bad and what isn't.

Second, i'm quiting soon so i could care less if this gets back to me but Ford says if its in warrenty that unless it is dripping and hits the ground its ok. I'm speaking of seaping oil or something barely leaking. In my book if something is wet, it needs attention before it becomes worse.....

Thirdly if it was a drive on lift i'm sure the suspension was never looked over and just checked green on your multipoint sheet.

Thats why I do all my own oil changes can't trust dumb ass kids work in an oil pit most kids nowadays are dumber than a box of crayons. I just can't believe your ball joints are that bad that fast. The dealership I bought my truck from don't use stupid kids in the oil pit they actually use full fledge mechanics to change the oil and do the repairs.

My ford dealer is also full of crap. Rather than change out both head gaskets they'll only change the one that's bad rather than both. Ford has been in trouble before concerning warranty work. My ford dealer also tried to tell me that a 5.0 wouldn't fit in my truck too which has definately been proven wrong. They also lost the only 2 people that knew what they were doing (better than the rest of them) so that tells me alot about ford's service dept. Not to mention the fact that getting them to oder parts is like pulling teeth from a lion's mouth while it's trying to eat.

I don't trust dealer service any farther than I can throw them. For that matter, I don't trust most independent garages either. The dealer parts department is pretty decent though.

Like stated above, I do my own work unless I can't do it cheaper or I don't have the tools needed to do the job. That doesn't happen often. So pretty much it's exhaust work or tire changes that I pay someone else to do.

That's sad too.

I can understand if it's on a truck that gets hard use, but not on someone's normal condition daily driver.

you never once looked over your truck in those two months? when you're getting gas, washing it, nothing? how did YOU miss it? it's not their truck, it's YOURS. no one's fault but yours IMHO.

That's way too soon right there man. You shouldn't have to do any suspension work until at least the 100K mark easy, not unless you're modifying it for another purpose. I'd be doing my own work too if I didn't have any mobility problems or the tools needed. Just about all of my tools were either stolen, or I sold them because of my health issues. It sucks not being able to do what you've loved and always wanted to do your entire life.

Go back to the dealer with something written from your third party mechanic. Ask for the contact info for a regional manager or rep, and inform them that you will plaster their dealership name all over the interwebz unless they are willing to fix the issue. They will likely do the work to save their name.

Thanks man. I have learned to live with it and figure out how I can still be involved with my hobby in alot of different ways. Right now I'm into T-buckets. Rat Rods, and doing an engine swap in my ranger (350 SBC if you're wondering).
