I started to do the same thing several times but never did. They are called vanity plates here and cost around $30.

I had an old cycle plate that read "3M TA3" for the enjoyment of people traveling the other way on the road (write it down, then look at it in mirror). I had applied for "MY XTC" and got a nasty physical visit at work from ATF, long story short, they denied the plate, so I went with the "3M" plate (grin)

personalized plates in MN are $125 plus the actual tab fees, so for my truck, that would be $168.
But you can only use a total of 7 spaces, nothing that might be offensive,(OK2BWHT) nothing religious,(JESUS C) nothing copyrighted, (COORS) nothing sexual, (PEN15) nothing that could confuse the cops (1I1IQQO)
nothing violent (COPKLLR) or nothing hurtful (NOTAFAG)
so, here most don't have one and those that do, it's something dumb like their first name or something so unintelligeable that you nearly have an accident trying to figure it out what it says

Mine is my amateur radio callsign -- what's your call, and what bands do you work?

I'm KB3VDE, and I haven't had my license for long. I've only worked 10 meters once, on a club rig and under the station's call during the PA QSO Party. I'm studying for my General exam right now, but I haven't been very active - hopefully I'll fix that in the near future!

ah, cool... good luck on the General exam! I think you'll find that the written General exam is about like the written Technician exam -- shouldn't be too difficult. ...which means, you have plenty of time to practice/learn CW. ...and, maybe we'll exchange a quick QSO on field day! [I'll be in the CW tent at our club's field day, where we usually operate 20m,40m, & 80m -- K4TLH 2A NFL]

That is really ridiculous. I would get any either at that price.

X2. I checked on this recently here in VA. They want at least $70 bucks a year here for personalized plates, and its about 10 to 15 bucks more for custom plates. I wanted to get one those black and white tags for my truck with the year "2004" like you see on the antique vehicles here. If mine was antique it wouldn't cost no more than $55 bucks and I wouldn't have to renew them every year either. But since it aint, I would have to renew them every year and the cost is just too expensive.
