The Edge is a sharp looking truck for sure. Maybe they should have called it Razor.

Funny that you mention that. Back in 2001 when I was buying a Ranger the salesman at the local Ford dealership tried hard to sell me a yellow Edge. I went and looked it over and decided I was too old to be driving around in a bright yellow Edge. I told the dealer it looks like it was made for the younger crowd and he said it was. He offered it to me two grand under the base XL Ranger. I should have took the offer but didn't. I got a red base XL instead. Lol!

That's what I was thinking and I got that impression while looking at the brochure to. Not all came with the skid plates. I know a cat that has a 4X4 Edge and his didn't come with skid plates.

I know how you are feeling. I wish I was 10 years younger myself. That way I wouldn't have the mobility issues that I have now. If I feel this way at 36, I don't want to know what my 50's would feel like. I say you're probably feeling it too. They say you really feel it at 40, and I'm kindly believing it too.

----------

My question is this: If they do get rid of the ranger platform, what would be replacing it in terms of a light duty model? Maybe they'll bring back the old F100 or the old Courier that came and went just before the ranger came into the fold. Cause it's very clear to me that someone will need a light duty truck instead of a fullsize. Plus people just don't have the money to buy a fullsize truck on a frequent basis either, especially in today's economy. That fact is not disputed either.

I think that would be a mistake on the big 3's behalf. Why abandon it when it's clear that people want a midsized/light duty truck. They need to reconize that SUV's are not what america wants right now in terms of fuel economy and budget reasons. I think they need to focus more and leave the SUV's alone for a while and restructure their line up a little better. Cause not everyone wants an SUV (I know I don't) due to the fuel and economy situation.

A base F150 and base Ranger run about the same price now in some areas if I recall correctly.

The majority of the auto buying public is severely misinformed. Dealers do anything they can to make a sale, so it's very common for them to stretch the truth, as in telling someone the F150 is a better choice for them. Then they buy it, and realize it's not for them and trade it in for something else. But Ford got their money for the truck, so that's all they care about. And in the end, they get a lot more money for the F150 than the Ranger. Simplified, big trucks are more popular than small trucks, and the sales numbers prove it. Maybe if Ford would have re-designed the Ranger more then they would have had better numbers. The car buying public like what's new and fresh, and that's just not the Ranger.

I totally agree about keeping the small truck concept alive and its a big mistake, but this has been discussed many times (not a stab at you or this thread) but we can just determine that they dont listen to the market (I dont think they have since the mid 70s when you could customize a car to YOUR liking including 31 different colour instead of the same 6 we see today) so we might as well reluctantly say bye to the XL, XLT, Sport, FX4, Lvl II, Edge, Thunderbolt, STX and any other Ranger model I may have forgotten.

----------

Not here lol... base Ranger start at 14,999, base f150 start at 21,999. big difference.

I can't touch an XL Ranger for less than 18K here in Florida. Hence why I said in some areas. A base F150 is around 19-20K. Even though this is up to a 2K difference, the dealer would just coerce the customer with the simple statement that they are getting more for their money with the F150.

I agree. If they resdesigned the ranger it would most likely out do the F150 and 250's for that matter. It does need to be redesigned and offer more options such as that "accesory line up" I talked about earlier. That would be a huge improvment over what's availible. But they don't listen to the people. I'd hold public polls and seminars to find out what the people would want and go from there in terms of mass production of what we'd have availible concerning powertrain and accessory packages. But they don't want to, and they're clearly going to push the F150 beyond it's limits. That new F150 design is terrible. It looks like someone gagged and puked on it IMO.

You have a higher tax rate down there too on vehicles. My brother lives in Ocala and he said the tax rate down there on a new vehicle is murder on the wallet after he got his 2004 GMC Sierra. His is a hybrid and it cost him even more in taxes during the sale to boot. So I feel your pain on that one.

He lives in Ocala? So do I.lol.

The tax rate is ridiculous. But the homeowner tax is worse.

Yeah my little brother (he aint so little no more, L.O.L) says the same thing. I lived there from 1992 to 1994 and It's over priced.
What design would you pick for the ranger? I'd make a mini version of the lightning in terms of the body style and use the new Ecoboost V6 engine and offer the option of a "mass produced" V8 in an accessory package myself. That way it can be affordable to the public and still be kool looking. Plus I get on here and see what other people do with them in terms of mods that are being used. I'd also partner up with the aftermarket more as well. That's how I would revamp the old ranger platform. I'd use what we have availible that would help in bringing down the price tag.
