Default Spark plug wires ...Ford ranger 94?

I was wondering what is the lifespan of spark plug wires. I have a 1994 ford ranger, 335 000 Km and these wires have never been changed.

Typically these wires are attached to the distributor cap and needs to be changed when you are having a "hard" start. The wires should be fine but the distributor cap usually goes south, with corrosion of the contacts. Sometimes the corrosion can be cleaned (sanding) but will eventually go "bad" again. Service stations would like to get your business, so naturally they would advise a more frequent change.

I would say, if you are getting a normal start and no problems with losing power whilst driving you are good to go. Once you start noticing a difficulty with starting and loss of power whilst driving, then you will need to change the wires.

If they ain't broke..............

I have an 89 Ranger with 400,000 miles on the truck. Wires were changed at less than 100,000 so the ones I'm using have around 300,000 on them!

You will know when the are failing. Truck will begin to miss under a light load.

The wires I'm now using are Bosch brand.
