Default Rear diff question.

Does anybody know what color the ford factory friction modifier is? The reason i am asking, is i went to check my diff fluid level and when i did i found this real thick grey fluid, about the consistency and color of the aluminum anti-seize on the fill plug. Just seeing if i need to do a fluid change soon or if it can wait awhile.

Topped off the fluid today, the gray stuff was just on the fill plug, i guess it has a magnetic fill plug, when i stick my finger in to check the level, the fluid is clean.

In a related question, are there different fluids you can use to change the characteristics of your differential? I know it works like that in R/C cars but want to be sure 1:1 is the same way.

Cant afford a diff locker yet so the thicker the fluid I can use the better for now I suppose...

Wrong, just means you have thicker oil. Changes the heating characteristics.

As for diff fluid in question....just change it. 30 bucks tops, 9 bucks for friction modifier.
