i wanna make my 2.3 2004 ford ranger go fast
that's pretty much it.
i was thinking a lot of things.
what would be my best option?
say if money was no object.
and also if money was a problem.
but then again. i don't know i should put money into the little guy because it might not even be worth it.
help me out?

1. 4.10 gears: may hurt highway mileage, but improves acceleration and city mileage. About $400-600 installed.
2. Cold Air Intakes: K&N or others. Can improve acceleration and mileage.
3. Turbo Kit: Best bang for your buck. Average gains are about 10-20 hp per pound of boost.
4. Power Programmer: Don't know if they make them for the 4 cylinder, but can really improve mileage and power.

A Nox kit would definately make it faster, would also burn up the parts faster.
Boreing the pistons and stuff is the old school way.
Something as seemingly inconspicuos as an exhaust diameter change can raise or lower the torque and bhp.
If it goes 65 on the highway, that is fast enough.

You need to find a wrecked mustang 8 cylinder with a five speed. Your Ranger needs a V8.

I don't think there's anything you'll want to do. It's just not a performance vehicle.

That said, the 2.3 was available for a while with a turbocharger (like in the aerocoupe and Merkur xr4ti). It's a tough little engine.

Nitrous is cheap, but not for beginners.

You could trade it in on something fast.

I would just keep it the way it is and enjoy the cheap insurance, good fuel economy, and reliability.

yes your engine is basically the same engine in the Focus ST 05-07. and is also the same as the 2.0l in other ford cars and mazda. (did you know it in a sion also). It is not the 2.3 liter of the pinto, mustang II or the Turbo Coupe. check with Cosworth, this family of engines is a cosworth design. also checkout British American Transfer (batinc.net). Do your research.

Turbo kits and NOS is the quickest way to fast

Turbo for sure, yes, but your ranger already has a "cAI" kind of, your airbox is located behind your headlight so therefore cold air is pulled away from truck. A super quick and completely free way to gain under 5 horses is to remove your air silencer in your airbox, it lets air flows much easy, more air gets in to engine and plus when your running around 3500 RPMs your engine will roar up like its a V8 sound. look for air silencer removal on this cite, it takes 5 mins and is 100% free and doesnt void any warrantys or cause any problems, saves you 200$ from doing a K&N system

if she is old, also clean fuel injectors and inspect pistons, replace O-rings if need be, clean MAF sensor, clean throttle body is an awesome way to increse response and get up in high pressure situations, and look on this cite for throttle cable mod, its awesome as well in the way of increaseing response. If money was no object you could bore pistons but then again, look at our economy, reduce exhaust resistance by removing all pipe (manifold back) and simply re-installing 2 foot pipe with cat and run her right out the back, youll sound mean and get up at the expense of torque
