I liked the Colorado and Canyon before the bailout. They have some trick cargo features and get better mileage than my Ranger–both big plusses to me. After the whole bailout and the resulting ownership arrangement, I was–and still am–done with GM (and Chrysler…except for the Viper ).

They would've been good trucks if they hadn't dropped the ball. Anything that has the SRT8 or 10 logo I'll get in a heartbeat. That is made in the USA. It's about the only thing that is completely made in the states other than a few odds and ends that is. Chrysler has been mismanaged since the muscle car wars died down for a good number of years. They started doing good again briefly when they reintroduced the Hemi. Then they started going down hill yet again towards 1995. Then they came out with the Neon and partnered up with Mitsubishi to supply the engines for the Neon. Then they made a huge business mistake by partnering up with Mercedes Benz. After the plug was pulled on that deal, they have been limping on ever since. They got rid of the Neon, which should've been revamped and things got worse. Law Enforcement kept them going, but let's face it. How many cop cars can the U.S. buy on a frequent basis?

Just my two cents but the new GM cars are in my shop daily the Colorado is not a very good truck. I know I a bias but Fords are the way to go. I had a 2001 Ford F-150 in there last week had 4.2 and 325k on it still running strong.

I've had other shops tell me this. Here's the scary part. Everyone of them are diehard GM freaks to say the least. They said and I quote: "That's one sorry ass truck". When a GM MASTER TECH with enough patches going up and down both sleeves of his work shirt tells you this, you know it's worthless. He also said the body outlasts the engines now. It used to be the other way around. GM shouldn't have got rid of the S10 platform. They should've also kept the Chevy Extreme trucks. I liked those, they were nice. The colorado might be nice now, but look how long it took them to get that way. They'll be gone by next year.

We have a couple of Colorados here at work. They are all crap. I wouldn't buy one.

just thought id throw my 2cents in.... im thinking of sellin my truck relativly soon(within 2 yrs) and ive been kinda putzin around lookin at different trucks, i want a powerful, good off road capability and reliable truck thats compact. i really want an american made one soo ive been looking at the ranger, dakota, and colorado

on paper it seems id rank the colorado #1, ranger #2, dakota #3.
1.colorado cus, you can get the off road pakage with the v8 and i like the look of the truck personally

2. ranger cus i love it and it runs good and is very reliable

3. dakota cus it american that bout all i like ha

heres my ranking from what i here:

1. ranger cus it reliable, last a long time,..... tho it is a very basic truck, and you cant get certian things with it any more

2. dakota cus i dont here too much bad stuff about it but the trannys, buut iii hhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaattttteeee the new look to it

3. colorado cus of everything from safety to reliability

to some it up, i basically wish you cld put the z71 and v8 into the ranger and keep its reliablity..... ha so i have no clue what i want to get.

ive looked at f150's too but it doesnt fit my off roading neeeds( which ive become quite the off roader) but it too big, i cldnt take down half the trails i hit currently with my ranger...... so that my delema

It seems a V8 would be a popular option to add to the ranger. They're the only one that haven't done it from the factory yet. Chrysler and GM have both added a V8 to their mid/light duty truck line.

The only things good about GM is Crate engines, and transmissions and the ease of getting parts (depending on your budget of course). Other than that, they're good for nothing. Every GM product I've ever owned has been a POS.

My biggest problem with the Colorado/Canyon is their price vs. size (and lack of fuel economy). I bought a new fullsize truck ('08 Dodge Ram QCSB) for $3,000 less than the equivalent Colorado. The Frontier and Tacoma trucks were the same way. Ford doesn't make a crew cab Ranger, so that wasn't an option and I didn't like the looks of the Dakota.

I know right? The older body styles seem to be the most popular these days. The new Challengers and Mustangs are perfect examples of what we're talking about. I don't know what GM's thinking by comparing the new Camaro with a 1969 Camaro or the 1968. Does the new Camaro even come close to this:

My answer is this, The GM designers of today don't know their asses from a hole in the ground. Aint no way in hell that anyone can tell me that the new Camaro even looks like what I posted up just now. It doesn't even come close at all, yet their sales people try to tell me that it does. They must be hitting the ol crack pipe again.

My brother had a Dakota and all he did was pay to get it fixed. Engine and tranny problems.

I too was looking at possibly a Tacoma or Ranger, but Ford had the better deal, and the options I wanted on the truck.

I briefly looked at a Colorado bu they are quite a bit more money than the Ranger and I didn't see where it was worth the extra.
