I was interested in adding a K&N Air Filter to my Ranger but thought I should ask if anyone has done this and how well it worked . I appreciate any help. Thanks

I have had one since I bought the truck. Started out with a drop in one and later put in the CAI with cone filter.

Easy to clean every oil change or every other depending on climate (if it is dusty out)

Clean the MAF sensor when you clean it and your good to go.

just get the drop in filter, not the whole Cold air intake kit.

I have a drop in and I like it. It doesnt give you 2500+ hp gains but it is better than paper in my opinion.

Thanks for the response , they do make the complete intake for our truck , does it help a lot compared to the replacement filter?

Not unless you plan to do other things and add a tuner with it as well.

I'm planning to get one for my truck soon as I need a new air filter... I've used them in bikes for years and easy to clean and re-use instead of buying a new one.

Useful in that you can clean and re-use it. As far as performance, no, you will gain nothing.

I've bought 2 K&N drop in airfilters when I got my ranger 7 years ago. I still use them to this day. The up front cost isn't great but over the long run, they'll pay for themselves over and over again. I let mine air dry overnight after cleaning it and barely reoil it when it needs to be changed out. Most people make the mistake of "over oiling". I have not had to clean my MAF because of the airfilter either due to using a light amount of oil.

I have installed a k&n filter in my motorcycle, and was required to rejet the bike, so it wouldn't run to lean. Does this problem happen with rangers as well, or does the coputer just accept it. Thanks Ricksvstar

You might also want to look into AEM filters. They're washable and reusable but don't require oli. Though if you get an AEM you'll have to get their full intake kit because i don't think they have drop-ins for our trucks

from what i have read and been told is yes, it enhances performance, but at a cost. It has better airflow but thats because it doesn't filter as well... I would just recommend going to napa and getting there "gold filter" its like 16 bucks and does its job.

CAI did nothing for me....standing alone its useless. With exhaust and a tuner you will notice the difference. Throttle response was the only thing a little better. For the money I would say go with a drop in.

I've run all kinds of filters. Unless you are doing some things like a CAI, exhaust and tuner it won't really make any difference. For me it was cost savings. Pay more for a filter that will last a long time or pay less for one that last a 1/100 the time. I put probably 30k on my truck this last year, it paid itself off already right there. Mine seems to hum a bit, which some others have noted as well. But just like STL said, follow the cleaning instructions and you are golden. It was also good for me because it does a better job at catching all the crap in the air, I work construction on a very dusty site, and I like to go 4 wheeling. It helps with the dirt.
