That's the only real differnce I saw just with the K&N Airfilter was a shade better in throttle response.

Pay more for a filter that will last a long time or pay less for one that last a 1/100 the time. I put probably 30k on my truck this last year, it paid itself off already right there. Mine seems to hum a bit, which some others have noted as well. But just like STL said, follow the cleaning instructions and you are golden. It was also good for me because it does a better job at catching all the crap in the air, I work construction on a very dusty site, and I like to go 4 wheeling. It helps with the dirt.
Yep. You'll need a tuner and alot of other things for the ranger. Now if you put that same type of filter on a carbed motor then you'd notice some huge changes over the paper filter. Plus you'll most likely have to either change the carb, or change the jetting in the carb to keep it from running lean. But that's a simple thing to do if you know how or you can have the manufacturer of the carb do it for you at very little cost. K&N has been one of the best airfilter manufacturers in the aftermarket for quite some time now. They started shortly after Edlebrock did in the racing world. The paper filters wouldn't hold up to the rigors of racing, so a few guys got together and invented an airfilter that would last alot longer and perform a little better at the track. That's when K&N airfilters was born.
