So i got my ranger 98 2wd 4.0 from my grandfather about 5 months ago. And it was chugging on start up and for a lil bit after.. So i took it in. And they talked alot... Like always. Come to find out i have coolant going in my #4 cylinder which means my gasket is fucked..... So now they want 1500 to fix it. And im saying fuck it... Im going to sell the truck and buy a new one... Its got 120,000 on it and its just not worth to put almost 2000 bucks into it. Can i get some opinions i think im going about this right?

if you do the gasket yourself its very inexpensive.. just alot of labor.. i bought all the gaskets for my 00 3.0 for 100.00 ...

Being my age, and gone through so many vehicles, I would say your not thinking right. It may cost 2k to fix that, but do you have payments? If you sell it, get a new truck, in about 6 months you would pay about that 2k in car payments, then its payments EVERY month till its paid off. On top of that, if you have a problem, you have to pay for it to be fixed AND have monthly payments. Also buying new, at your age would mean higher insurance and most likely the mandatory full coverage. When I got divorced I ended up with my wifes car, it was BRAND new and I pay over 500.00 a month and it friggin sucks. My best advice is to keep it and put what you need into it.

No the truck was giving to me... So i dont make paymeants... And also im not going brand new... Like 04.. And its only 7000 the one im looking at.. and ill get 2000 about for my truck so 5000 left to pay.. im 21 so my insurance is decent. I dont pay over 100 a month. And i see where your coming from but its 2wd and i would like 4x4 living where i do. I mean i just dont belive its worth it to put the money into it.. And i have no idea wtf im doing when it comes to gaskets and that stuff. Idk... My dad agrees with me but i dont like thinking about paying for it..

you're not going to get 2k for it with a blown gasket

If you drive it you will hydraulic the motor.Fix it or dont but either way its done.I would fix it yourself and save your money,a head gasket on that will be quick and easy but make sure you get the heads resurfaced so you dont end up wasting your time.

A modded, '98 2x4 4.0 Ranger with 120,000 miles and a blown head gasket…you'll never see 2k from a dealership on that. I'm in the "fix-it yourself" group on this one, or you could try putting it up on ebay or craigslist as a "mechanic's special"
