How many miles though? And in what condition? how much stuff did you have to fix?

I'd say you're backed into a corner a little bit. On one hand if you sell the truck you will be lucky to get around $800 to $1,000 bucks out of it considering it needs what any uneducated buyer would consider major work. On the other hand since it does need work, why not have someone perform a V8 swap for you? Head gaskets aint as bad as people think. The ones that do are either trying to rip someone off, or doesn't really know anything about repair work. I'd do this. Go and buy the head gaskets needed for the repairs on your own at a local autoparts store. Then have the dealer repair it for you. All they can really do is charge you for is labor at that point. Anyway I thought I'd throw those 2 options out for you to consider.

depends on how desprate the dealer is to sell whatever he is interested in.

my ex traded in her 98 explorer with a blown headgasket (real bad, couldnt drive it when after about 5miles of driving because it had no power) and they gave her 3500 LOL

I don't like people who try to screw others. the ONLY way you're gonna get 2k is sell it yuorself and not tell the buyer that it's f'd up. people like that get under my skin! fix it yourself. a good chilton manual, head gaskets and bolts is cheap. surely you have some buddies that would help you for beer on the weekends. plus you'll have the memories and the fun of doing it yourself. there's nothing like the feeling of accomplishment. don't be one of those jerkoffs that screws people!

These days, the dealers seem to be extremely desperate to sell anything. A local news broadcast done a spot on this just recently. They held an online poll first, then the next night they talked to several local business owners that are heavily involved in the automotive world in one form or another. Over 90% of the people that voted on that poll they had, voted for repairing what they have or restoring it rather than buy something new. The local business owners said that business as of late has been booming in terms repairing and restoring vehicles. Salvage yards that normally doesn't get alot of people have seen nearly double the business than what they used to see. local body shops and automotive trade schools have seen an increase in project vehicles as of late.

X2. People out to make a quick buck that don't give 2 shits about what they're selling really piss me off. They're easy spot too in most cases. You mention any amount of money around them and most either get a gleam in their eyes, or they start salavating. In other cases when you talk in technical terms, they roll their eyes or try to change the subject. I believe in what I do and have a passion for it. These guys usually don't and all they want is the money. Honesty is the best policy in my book. If someone wants to buy something off of me they'll know what they're buying and everything about what they're buying before any money changes hands.

Well im posted in craiglist and trust me i did enough of that in my younger years and my hands took the punishment. And sorry but a v-8 really? If i had enough money for that id buy a fucking mustang. And Theres more to it than just changing the gashket according to my dad which has been a custom applicator for more than 25 years. Theres alot of little things that need to be tuned and what not.. Nothing i have any experience in.. And yeah he could help me but it wouldnt be untill nov or dec. Because he works agriculture and its warm and nice out and farmers are *******s so hes busy for 3 months.5 to 9 almost everyday. So like knightmare said im backed into a corner.

So pretty much sell this buy something i want or something i dont want that will last awhile... I dont have much of a choice.

Well I threw that V8 option out there just in case. It's really a matter of what you want to have really. Get what you can out of it, but please let people know that it does need some repairs. They might just buy it off you for that paticular purpose I just mentioned, you never know. Tim Sockness done just that with a 98 Ranger not long ago. he stuffed a 351 windsor punched out to a 383 and added a 6-71 blower to it. he basicly turned that ranger I metioned in to a "prostreet version". heres the link if you want to see it:

Yah i prefer not to fill my tank everyday... I just want something i can drive wont die and have a shit ton of problems i can get okay mileage and put everything i want into it.
