Default Why all this talk about revamp/discontinuing the Ranger?

*This might come off as a facepalm thread to some but I just have to posts my thoughts on this*

After reading numerous threads about "they're getting rid of the ranger" and "When are they going to update the Ranger?" threads I have grown weary. Too many of these have popped up in my short time here.

Question to those who are saying "Omg, they are discontinuing the Ranger!!!, WTF, why not update it?" One thing I have realized from being on this forum with some odd 26,000 members (at this time) is that 90% of us mod our rangers anyway. Why does it need to be revamped when so many of us (who are handy and like to be original) take the time and effort to fab things you never see in other vehicles. Heck we see Rangers that have class, rangers that are off Road monsters, Prerunner Ranger, Lowered rangers, performance rangers, etc.

The point is everyone's ranger is unique to the now rare 1983s to the common years that we see everyday. Its a unique brotherhood to be apart of, and one to be proud of. we see a lot of commercials of Scions, being a car for people to modify, but i think we prove them wrong with all our unique trucks. Even brand new 2011 are getted modded as we speak regardless of warranties.

Why revamp when most of us engage ourselves into projects regarding suspensions work, exhausts, interior, pody panels, sound systems, wheels and tires, even engine and tranny transfers.

I think it would be more logical for Ford to keep the ranger as its been know, a reliable simple hard working truck that oh so versitile. Trucks we can make our own and learn with. How many have never touched a tool in their lives and arent handy have developped the necessary skills to paint their interior panels, install a flowmaster 40, mustang dome lights and clean their MAF.

I say to you Keep the ranger as is, a reliable Powertrain (although dated, still provides the performance most of us need), with basic but functional components. Most of us change those components anyways. The only request that I would have from ford would be a frame that is more modern or even keep the OEM frame and solidify it more (since most of us dont mod the frame). Other then that I love the fact that on a tight budget, all of us were able to afford a truck that has so much potential as stated above.

To those who think the Ranger should be a crew cab. I disagree, as stated in other threads, there was a ranger crew cab (the Sportrac) and it sort of failed since it wasnt as functional, keep the ranger for what it is (a compact truck, not a mid or full size). I just had to post this on here since so many ppl seem to buy rangers and hate its basic core. Yeah the interior is simple, yeah the sound system sucks, yeah its small and sort of hard on gas, well instead of Ford making a Ranger to please everyone at a premium ($30,000 price tag anyone) keep it small and simple so anyone can afford a nice truck that has a good rep. You don't like then its up to the owners to change it, which I think most Ranger owners here take that upon themselves.

Ppl might not agree with this, might judge me for this, but I simply believe that modding your ranger to meet its full potential is what it takes to be a proud ranger owner. how boring would it be to buy a truck just like everyone else. Sucks wouldnt it. I am proud of What I own and I know that others are just as proud and I hope that other Ranger owners will soon realize what a great truck they have.

LOL End Rant.

Out of my group of friends I have the only ford. 1 Ranger, 1 S10, and 4 Ram 1500 (3 of which are the new body style). Look's like the mini's are more original. A Black and DSG ranger...a champagne S10...a black and 2 blue rams...who do you think parks at the ends of the 3 rams...the outsiders and that means we are never over looked.

i don't really feel like reading all that, but i'll give my $.02:

Ford doesn't give a shit about the ranger, how well it sells, or what the people who buy them do to their trucks. They see it as an economy vehicle (especially with the 4 cyl) that gets good gas mileage on the cheap. The ranger was pretty much the cheapest vehicle Ford sold up until the introduction of the Fiesta. Now, the Fiesta gets better mileage, and according to the Ford website starts at around 13k.... 5k less than the Ranger. So really, why should they keep the Ranger when they have an economy car that is cheap, and a line of very popular full size trucks?

Some people are under the misguided impression that
1) Ford cares what some people on the internet think
2) People on internet forums represent the majority of the users of the subject of the forum.

We're probably 1% of the Ranger owners. There is a big picture at work here way over and beyond what you want to do with your truck.

All those threads are pointless. The Ranger is gone, suck it up and move on. You like Rangers more than the F-series? Don't want a small car? Take the $13,000 you'd spend on a Fiesta and rebuild the engine and transmission when they blow and keep on driving your Ranger.

And that's what I have to say for that.

It's easy to see the ranger won't be lasting too long.....I called it a couple years ago when they were putting sync in EVERYTHING lol but the poor ole ranger gets stuck with last years radio lol..just minor details like that tell me they are done with it....or perhaps it's just another "fleet" vehicle like the crown vic.....no real competition for it, so it just remains unchanged.....and by the time something does come up to complete, they scrap it (like they are doing with the crown vic) and will just build something else to make money...cause that's what they do best....and I hope they continue to cause my FORD stock is doing quite well

X2, I am not really crying about the Ranger dying anymore since I dont plan on buying another one anyways. I ordered this truck the way I wanted it. If there are issues, Im gonna fix em before scrapping it.

If only everybody else would accept our mentality.

Besides, I find that at least half the people who complain about the Ranger disappearing couldn't even afford a new one anyway. They don't make 1964-1973 Mustangs anymore, but they sure show up in numbers at Mustang shows. Why is that? Because when things got old, caring owners rebuilt the failed parts, because they wanted to see their Mustang last. Same goes for Rangers.

My gripe is I prefer to buy something American right now, and we all should if we still want a job in this country tomorrow per se. That said I “downsized” from a full-sized truck to get my Ranger intentionally ,I like the more nimble handling of a small truck, the fuel mileage from my 2.3L that’s untouchable by anything with a pickup box attached to it. My point is that the only alternative is to go to Toyota or Nissan now WTF? And why would Ford do that to all the loyal blue oval customers that don’t want to drive a big @ZZ F-150 daily. Even if they somehow made an F-150 that got 50 mpg, I don’t want to park or drive something that big and that wide period.
I can’t tell you how many small & large businesses buy new Rangers every year around here. Small delivery companies, the Gas Company, cable companies, pest control businesses, etc… what are these customers of Ford going to buy instead? Send them to your competitor….? Sorry for the long rant, I’m just pissed off too that this is the end of the road for the compact pickup.

I have had this mindset since I got my Ranger, just got my Ranger last month. I've had the Subaru & Honda almost a year. My Outback was made in Tennessee BTW and no other brand (Domestic or Foreign) makes an AWD car its size that gets 30 mpg, same for my Honda that costs $20K and gets 45 mpg. The Volt doesn't count it costs almost $50K which makes it pointless for my financial needs.

I also had a 2005 Dodge 2500 4x4 Quadcab 5.9 Cummins diesel and 2008 Chevy 2500HD 6.0L before the Ranger, so believe me bro I'm doing my part.
