Default Re: Why all this talk about revamp/discontinuing the Ranger?

The ranger isn't really dead when you think about it concerning the big picture. The used vehicle market sells a shit load of them. Here's what's keeping the old ranger platform alive right now, fleet sales such as autozone, advanced auto, and some small utility companies such as power and natural gas companies etc. and the used vehicle market. When you first buy a new ranger your getting alot more truck for the money than you'd hoped for. And to whom ever said the crown vic is dead better go to Ford's future vehicles webpage and look. The new police cars you will be seeing is called the crown victory black hawk edition. Ford I think has alot of ideas on what to do with the old ranger platform, but they don't want to take a huge financial risk of it being a flop in terms of changing their tooling. I've heard that rumor of ford getting rid of the ranger for 4 years now, and until I see it happen I won't believe it. Right now you really have only 2 choices of a 1/2 way decent light duty truck. The old ranger, or the taco. The frontier's suck in my book, and GM fucked up when they got rid of the S10/S15 and replaced it with the Colorado and Canyon. Those 2 vehicle platforms are not worth the extra money you'd pay to have one of those vehicles. I'm with Crowd88 on this one. Yes the ranger does need help, but you can always change it with various mods. And if you don't like what you have you can always go to a Junk/Salvage yard and buy a ranger that you want. That's the point of kustomizing, make it your own with what you'd like and can afford rather than have the same truck as everyone else. The actual Ranger pick up truck has been around since 1983, which means that if you can't find one you aint looking at all.

It also amazes me that no one really truly understands the term of "production". Ford would have to spend well over 14 million dollars just for their tooling alone. That's not counting the raw materials needed to produce a newer model of the ranger. In order for them to come out with a newer version of the ranger, they'd also have to have 10 times more sales than what the ranger actually produces in terms of sales. The only thing I can see them doing in the future would be adding either the 3.5 liter Ecoboost engine or a V8 which would nearly double the cost of the ranger and put it out of most customer's reach. That's not going to happen. Plus with the way Ford does business after the intial sale, they don't give 2 shits about their customers unless they're getting ready to buy another new vehicle. That's all they really care about is new vehicle sales period.
