Default 2000 xlt info requested

Hey everyone,

I'm new here to the forum and was just checking to see if there was anything to look out for with the 2.5L motor. I did a lot of research before purchasing the vehicle and it appears that these 4 banger rangers are pretty solid, but I thought there might be a few problems that I should be aware of.

On another note, has anyone put in a FIPK K&N intake on one of these? Just wondering if it would be worth messing with. Any recommendations for spark plugs? I was thinking bosch, but thought someone might have another suggestion.

Here's another question.
The handle to adjust the seat recliner broke. It wasn't with the vehicle when I bought it, so I will have to get another one. I was wondering if there was a way to permanently adjust the seat without the handle until I can get it fixed. It is stuck all the way forward and hurts my back on longer trips.

I have a V6 so I can't help you on most things, but for plugs use Motorcraft or Autolites only. These trucks hate everything else.

IIRC the 2.5L uses 8 spark plus (even though its a 4 cyl.) I wouldnt recommend using bosch as they can cause problems for the engine. I would suggest motocraft or I believe auto lites could work too.

thanks for the info.

I will probably go with Motorcraft. I ran all Motorcraft in my '03 mustang I had and it ran perfect with 171000 on it.

I have a 2000 2.5L A/T. Has 165,000 miles on it and still gets 27 mpg highway. For spark plugs I stayed with the Motorcraft SP432 Finewire Platinums ( I think thats the right part number, gapped to 0.045). No big problems, but here is a list of all the things Ive had to replace over the years:

Alternator (going to go bad sometime)
Fuel Pump (happened around 50k miles)
All the ball joints (put in MOOGS at 50k and couldn't be happier)
Speed sensor in rear diff
Spark plugs, wires, PCV valve, fuel filter
Brake light switch.

Pretty much the fuel pump and ball joints were the big dollar spends. No big problems from the engine itself.
